One on the most important reasons to play competitive sports is that it can build many skills that will help kids later on in life. Their was a study at the NYU child study center, it showed that if kids where to play sports it can help kids to think more critically …show more content…
and along with solving problems. Said by livestrong.com 2017. Their is many educational benefits like having a higher chance to get into a college and to also take education more seriously. Also said by livestrong.com 2017, they said that their is a lower chance of dropping out of school if you play competitive sports.
The second reason to play in competitive sports is that it can build many skills from competitive sports like winning and losing. I know that from experience that winning and losing and be a hard thing, but I think that if I did not play competitive sports at a young age. I do not really think that I would have the skills of winning and losing as a team. If I went to a sporting event or game and our team lossed the game. I do not think that I would take it every well but with playing competitive sports this has change it completely. Usually if we lose now a day after 5 minutes I am usually over it. From the website In All Things 2015It says, “The outcomes of these games require the participants to understand the importance of reacting appropriately to both winning and losing.” I believe that this is true because if you win you don’t go up to the other team and rub it in their face but it is ok to celebrate a little if it is a big game. But the losing team can’t overreact as well by not getting all mad and just try to keep it cool. Which I feel is what happens most of the time. Some of the other reasons that In all things 2015talked about was that it gives some skills like, some students have a deep desire to do well in a sports and find enjoyment in it. These were some of the reasons that In all things 2015 gave and also some of my thinking on winning and losing in competitive sports
But there's also some drawbacks to competitive sport just like anything.
I know that since most competitive sports team you need to try out for some kids just might give up because they don’t think that they are good enough to play the sport or they simply just can’t keep you with the skill level of the other kids. Most of the time in competitive sports people are almost in away force to play a sport because of a adult which might not have had the experience as a kid or they want them to do what they did. Sometimes this works out but other times it does not. Kids might do everything they can to be the best for their parent but this can lead to injuries. A quote from the Boston globe 2017 states. “Not long ago, I was invited to speak at the annual banquet for and “elite” youth hockey organization. Before dinner, the organization's president mentioned how he and his neighbor, another hockey dad, had seen the need for a top-tier program in their area, and how much planning and money it had required to create one. He rhapsodize about the championships his teams had won in their first two years of operation. He all said his 6-year old son and his neighbor's boy were hockey- crazed best friends - or at least they used to be. He neighbor’s son was not selected for a mite team that first year, and the two mean their boys had not spoken to each other since.” What I think that this means is that since their is tryouts for just about everything these days. So many kids are heartbroken that they do not make it and they will not talk to their friends again because of what happened. These are the some of the reasons that prove that competitive sports are bad for kids.
So after reading this I believe that the good things outweigh the bad in competitive sports. So do you think that competitive sports are good are bad for kids that are of a younger age. Competitive sports can teach kids many new skills that they can use later on in life. But some people argue against this. I think that
it does help. What do you think? Are they bad or good?
