The first step to physician assisted suicide is to make a formal oral request and attend advocacy groups to make sure it is the right decision for the patient. Then 15 days later they have to make another formal request. Once they have made your first two formal requests, they have to fill out a written request form signed by two adult witnesses that are psychologically capable. If after they have made all the requests they need and get approved, then they move on to getting the correct prescriptions they need. Their physician will prescribe the lethal drugs two days after their final request and if they get approved. Their physician cannot administer the drugs them self because if they administer the drug it is illegal and they could face criminal charges. Most of physician assisted suicide take place inside the patient’s home because it is more comfortable and since their physician cannot give them the medication them self.

If they are between the ages 12 and 16 they could also qualify but only if their parent or guardian consents. The child or patient has to have an incurable illness and be in unbearable pain, then the doctor will prescribe the medication for them. Once they get permission from the doctor, patient, and the parent a psychologist must determine if the patient is psychologically mature enough to make the decision.
