Children today are using technology in their personal, social and academic lives. This proves that technology is greatly advancing and can be used to help benefit children in school age programs. In the article Students Need Innovative Educational Tools in the Classroom Now by Elizabeth Hunter and Hope Jordan they state that children from kindergarten to grade 12 are using technology in their personal and social lives such as using cellphones, computers
and ipads. With these devices they’re using apps such as youtube, facebook and itunes to socialize, listen to music and for watching movies (Hunter, Jordan, 2009). In my own experiences I have also noticed ipads being used for children in school age programs for homework use and apps to help with their language and mathematic skills.
In the article technology in the Montessori classroom: Benefits, hazards and preparation for life by Greg Macdonald he starts by using a definition of what technology really is. He says “The cambridge dictionary defines technology as methods for using scientific discoveries for practical purposes.” This means that scissors are a part of technology as well as bicycles because they are both scientific discoveries used for practical purposes in the classroom.
