Many students do not have a clear idea of what their career will be in the future while attending colleges. Given the opportunity to explore different subjects would help them to choose a major that they truly interested and also avoid a future change of careers in case they studied a major that was not in their passion. For example, many students are urged to declare majors in junior year. If they have only studied mathematics and found that their real interests maybe in art or law, they may not have time to make the decision based on classes they have taken. If universities require all students to take classes in different fields, those students would have been encouraged to try those fields that they might be interested and would be able to decide on whether to major in law or art.
As a student who has been through choosing from different majors, I appreciate that universities in United States has provided students the chance to take classes freely because it helped me to switch major from biology to international relations, a field after taking several classes that I found myself could spend the rest of time devoted to. Thus, it is important for universities to require students to take courses outside of their chosen fields because it gives them opportunities to find their interests and prevent them from staying at the “wrong” field.
However, some people may argue that there are students who may already decided what they want to study and focus, forcing them to study courses that will not help them prepare their jobs is a waste of time. It is true that some students may already have
