Sex education is taught in and out of schools all over the country. However it is not taught in every school in the country. When it is taught in school kids get the facts, abstinence is taught and safe and healthy habits are taught. The parents or guardians should not have the responsibility of teaching there kids safe sex and healthy habits. The school sex education curriculum gives the cold hard facts and nothing is left out. Sexually transmitted diseases are discussed in detail about how they are contracted, how they can affect your life and how to prevent getting them. Every contraceptive is shown, what it prevents and how to use them.Since almost all of the kids learning about sex education are under legal age, the legalities of sex under age are taught to educate kids about the trouble that can come from illegal sex. They discuss every bad thing that can come from choosing to participate in sexually activities. Another reason why sex education should be taught in school is that it is and abstinence based teaching perspective.
Abstinence is the fact or practice of restraining oneself from indulging in something, typically sex or alcohol. Having an abstinence based teaching view means that they are heavily advised and encouraged to save themselves until marriage or until of legal age. The main reason of making sex education a class in school is that it is already helping. The teenage pregnancies reached an all time low in 2014 coming in at 11% of women 15-18. Which means that the education system is working by educating kids to stay abstinent and safe if they choose not
to. When Sex Education is taught in schools safe and healthy habits are taught. Many people think that there is a spiritual side of teaching at home because you can teach the beliefs of your said religion to your child. That can have an upside but in many cases many things are left out of the teachings at home. At school there is a biased towards abstinence and there is no religious connection. The habits that are taught are to not drink or smoke while pregnant. They also get to learn the emotional connections of participating is sexual intercoarse. Also the contraceptives that can be used to prevent pregnancy and STD’s are demonstrated on how to use them safely and efficiently. In conclusion, sex education should be taught in schools. It shows the cold hard facts, it has an abstinence based curriculum, and safe and healthy habits are taught. When it is taught at home things get left out. Sex Education is an important class to have in schools.
