Should Students Be Promoted To The Next Grade Level Essay

Students should be promoted to the next grade without mastering the objectives, because when a child is held back for a long period of time and their classmates move up to the next grade level while the child who was held back will think they are not smart enough to pass on to the other kids. Holding a child back for over year can hurt the child’s development and self-esteem. A child should be moved onto the next grade level even though they haven’t completed their current one.
I think that a child should be able to be passed onto the next grade level because whenever I see a held back student at the school I often start to wonder how they feel to see that they’ve been put back on the same grade level and the other students have been placed in the next. If I imagine myself in that position I would feel unintelligent and left out. It will begin to change the way a student goes on to school and even causing their self-esteem to drop. Having those negative thoughts at a young age can affect them as they grow up.
This way it will not make them feel different from another because they have failed to succeed but that they just need more help understanding. Failing a child will hurt their development and will not be able to learn the same as they did before.
