Charging of fees means that payments will be taken from students instead of receiving subsidies from the government. Education is a merit good as it produces positive externalities (i.e. a better educated workforce that can increase productivity of the society) and is under-consumed as a result. There are three main arguments as to why college athletes should be paid to play sports: athletes will be more motivated for academic studies, schools earn massive amounts of money from athletic events, and athletes have more costs to cover.…

Also if they get paid they won't have to get extra jobs, when they should be doing class work. Once again it comes to a point where it's all about the money and not the education. This is why most college athletes don't have good grades, so they constantly have to be in tutoring. “ "Everything we do is scheduled around football," he said, suggesting that advisers warned him away from classes that might interfere with the football workload. ”In the quote above, it says that classes interfered with football, so that means they are not participating in the classroom.…

When a student becomes employed, they can save the money that they earned, which can benefit for their future education. To further explain, the interview “ Paying for College without Loans, Scholarships or Looting your Parents’ Retirement” by Steinburg, Jacques and Mr. Zac Bissonnette tells the reader how “ Saves $6 per hour of that throughout high school will have 24,960 in savings,”(Bissonette 13). This proves to show that just with saving a little bit of money, can help the student pay off college easily. Others may argue that working during high school can distract a student from their work, but the same article leads a different direction with that statement. Should college athletes be paid? Let’s take a quick glance at the pros and cons of each perspective. For starters, in my opinion, yes, college athletes should get paid. What deserves debate, is the conversation of how to get this done. From my experience, in America, you get paid in proportion to the value you bring to the marketplace. College sports is one, if not the only, place where this isn’t the case. it’s only a matter of time before players start getting more than “a free education.”…

Adolescents, who are most likely seeking money than education, will no longer try to challenge themselves and enroll in easier classes just to get the money from the easy A. According to Mary Ellen Flannery’s article “Cash for Grades?” she writes that money rewards prevents students from becoming successful in the future because of this. Similarly, in another article it is written by the author that the cash for grades programs do lead to less motivation put onto kids to do better in school (Peterson). No argument can be made about this because students that do not challenge themselves should not be rewarded and if money rewards are given out. If so, no students would be recognized because none would enroll in Honors or AP courses that have a more rigorous curriculum compared to on-level classes which is what students will enroll in to get the rewards with less effort and time put into their own education. Education departments nationwide should abolish any cash for grades programs put in any schools for the bettering of the school’s reputation and students’…

Edgar Allen Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Emily Dickinson are just some of the few authors who wrote gothic literature stories. American Romanticism was used to show the reactions to the restrictions of the puritans during the 1800’s. The purpose of Gothic literature was and still is to entertain, to present a moral, and to inspire improvement of oneself through imagination. Desolate location, ghost or spirit, use of symbols, an attempt to escape for a moment are some characteristics that dark romanticism uses. Of course not all gothic stories have to have every single element listed to be considered gothic literature. “A rose for Emily” is a Gothic story.…
