Should Teachers Carry Guns In Schools
Teachers in 18 states are now carrying guns in school! After a recent study in the news that left many people questioning about, whether teachers should carry guns at school or not. My opinion is that they should not bring guns to school because it could accidentally go off. If this occurred it could affect a child's learning long term and their home life. This could also attract teachers for the wrong reason.

What if the gun goes off? There are many things a gunshot could do, the harm of others (including you) as well as the damage of property. This is a big deal especially if your loved one is involved. In Logan, Utah just recently a teacher had a gun go off. The result was the teacher was fired for the damage of property. The

Arming teachers will also increase the operating cost of school districts that are already short on funding. We hear each year that schools are being forced to cut back programs for the students or the salary of teachers. By arming teachers we would add to that cost by requiring firearm training for those that are authorized to carry a firearm. Additionally will the school district use their own range as law enforcement does? Who will have the qualifications to operate this range? If teachers don’t have their own range there will still be added costs to use a range to train or qualify teachers and staff. Adding more costs to school budgets will only decrease the level of education that children receive by cutting educational things out to make room for arming teachers.…

Despite the numerous parents and staff that are in favor of the new transition of teachers with guns there are a few that are not as adaptable with this change as others are. Teachers such as Ms. Moffis that stated, “Traditionally in this area, schools have already been a very safe and welcoming community,” referring to teachers having guns in the classroom, she added, “Nobody’s ever thought about needing that kind of thing at school.” This coming from a town that is well versed in handling guns within their own community and training their children at an early age the proper understanding of firearms.…

Guns are not the better outcome of bringing into schools because it does not have that many reasons for keeping it as the negative side do to ban them in a school. Adam Winker was right with his many reasonings of how guns do not bring a better outcome as if there was a law that let people carry guns into schools. People will not feel safer if those who are trying to protect them are the ones that are accidentally shooting them because of a mistake of figuring the…

In the late 90’s it wasn’t too common to hear about a student bringing in a loaded gun to school. In the case of the two students arrested on gun charges is a different story. It was the beginning of the school year, so there shouldn’t have been any quarrels. However, in Clearwater, Florida local high schools have been receiving bomb threats and fights have been breaking out at different schools in Pinellas County, Florida but that didn’t stop Christopher Bloom and Christopher Brown from bringing a gun to school. In our days it’s becoming more and more popular that there are people shooting up schools and malls. In the case involving two students arrested on gun charges one student had a .22 caliber handgun on the school grounds. The gun was found in Bloom possession. Bloom already has a prior record for…

The issue regarding arming teachers in schools has been a really hot topic lately with the numerous shootings in schools and on campuses. Many schools are asking themselves if they should go through with training teachers and staff and some schools have started doing so. Even though most schools have not allowed teachers to carry a concealed firearm, some teachers like Kelly Blake, a teacher of agriculture at Fleming School in Colorado, reports that she “wants her students to be protected at all times.” Other teachers along with Blake have looked at the arming teachers situation like this as well because they feel like they have the right to bare arms and protect themselves. Along with giving…

Picture a class of twenty elementary students hidden under desks around the classroom, and the teacher is begging the children to stop sobbing. Down the hall the sound of gunshots ring out the sounds of people screaming and begging for help can be heard. The shooter is moving closer and closer to the area and all the innocent soon to be victims are defenseless. There is nothing in that classroom that is going to stop what is about to happen. Now imagine a teacher with a handgun that could at least scare off the shooter, or deter them from advancing into the room. Many people frown upon teachers being able to carry a handgun on school grounds, but if they only knew that the thing they frown upon could possibly be saving their kids life. It makes perfect sense that teachers should be able to carry a handgun if and only if they go through the proper training and tests.…

Scared whimpers, teary eyes, and fearing for your life. This is what you would experience if a school shooting were to take place at your school. According to EverytownResearch.org there have been 196 school shootings in America since 2013. Last year there were 45 school shootings. The main reasons why our teachers need to be allowed to carry a firearm is for safety during emergencies, it’s cheaper than hiring a security guard, and school shootings can happen anywhere at anytime.…

Guns on a school campus is an issue with two clear sides, those who support allowing concealed weapons and those who rally for gun free zones. David Burnett supports the idea of allowing students to carry concealed weapons. Burnett’s central argument is that gun free zones leave students defenseless. Darby Dickerson disagrees, saying students do not understand the responsibilities of owning a weapon and should therefore, not be allowed to carry them on campus.…

A gun does not prevent a person from causing a horrible tragedy. Guns can easily be used inappropriately and possibly even land in the hands of the wrong person. Teachers do not have similar proper training and experience like police officers do. They will not know how to react on the spot if a future shooting occurs. Many can agree that guns are used for protection, but that might not be the case when it comes to school…

Having guns on campus would not be a very healthy learning environment. When students sit in a classroom, they should not have the fear of one of their classmates pulling out a gun. If students are too busy thinking about guns being on campus, it could distract them from actually working. This issue might even extend to not wanting to go to school because they feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Also not a very healthy teaching environment for teachers. The teachers might be scared that a student would pull a gun out on him or her…

When you think of Columbine High School and Sandy Hook Elementary School do you think of an average school or do you think of the tragic, mass murders that took place by gunmen? School shootings have started to increase more and more over the last decade, this also rising in colleges across the country. The question has been posed “Should students be allowed to carry a gun on campus?”. As the Constitution states in the Second Amendment, we as Americans, should have the God given right to have a gun to protect themselves from danger. Today’s society is willing to put people’s rights aside to make up for some people’s discomfort of having guns on campus. This is understandable as school shootings happen for people owning guns, but allowing students to carry a gun on campus also allows them to protect themselves and others in a crisis instead of having to wait for campus security or other law officers to show up. Being able to have a gun on campus could help save more lives than banning them. As some states are starting to pass the law allowing students to carry a gun as long as it’s concealed, it is starting many controversies as to whether it is what is best for our states. With many questions coming up with this debate, passing the law would allow students to use their right, protect themselves and others in dangerous situations, and even possibly decrease the opportunities for…

Guns in classrooms? Yes. Guns at sporting events? No. The administrators use these as examples of places that will be marked armed and unarmed zones at the University of Texas. Fifty years ago the first mass shooting at an American college took place. The University of Texas experienced a mass shooting when a student shot 45 people, killing 14 of them, from the clock tower (Gubler). In the New York Times article “Philosophizing With Guns” Simone Gubler talks about the “campus carry” bill that will come into effect on the 50th anniversary for Texas colleges. This bill will allow students to carry guns with them, in certain areas, on campus. Gubler is uncertain about letting students carry guns on campus, and I have some of the same concerns about the situation.…
