Goods were sold from all over the world, such as China, India, Egypt and Southeast Asia. The economy also grew. Due to many people bringing their values as well as different goods with them, cultures began to blend and more was available to the peoples. Languages were learnt. People began to take on different traditions and soon Constantinople held a civilization that merged ancient Greek, Roman, and Christian influences. The Mediterranean world also influenced the people of Constantinople. In addition the Byzantine Empire held people with values and morals from all over.

One way that the Byzantine Empire contributed to the development was through Justinian’s Code. Emperor Justinian organized all the laws of ancient Rome and his organization was then called Justinian’s Code. Lawful thinkers used this code for ideas much later. The thinkers put the international law that we use today together, with guidance from Justinian’s Code. Another way the Byzantines developed society and culture was saving Ancient Greek literature. Byzantine scribes copied what was written. A few pieces of literature that were saved were the Iliad, the Odyssey, and The Republic. The works of Socrates and Aristotle were also preserved. If the works of Aristotle weren’t remembered we would be living a different life and in terms of logic we would understand completely different things.
