Both boys were picked on in America because of where they were from and how they looked causing them to realize the passion that they felt for boxing. In the face of anger and dismay, Anthony showed incredible discipline by showing up in that hospital room where he was told by the entire family to continue boxing in order to keep Hamzah’s memory alive. Though his entire family’s American Dream was cut short, Hamzah forever lives in the hearts of many, and though it was a grave situation that caused Anthony Taylor’s dream to be realized he was a truer American than many from the moment he walked into that
hospital. To be an American is to believe in the opportunities provided and work hard even under tough conditions. Just like Hamzah Aljahmi was a Yemenis boy in America, there are many people from different backgrounds here. But to be an American is more than to be a citizen, it is to accept the others that live around us. Even though people may come from entirely different countries and cultures, America is a place where everyone can feel welcome and close to one another. And an American in this world is someone that allows others to live peacefully and interact with others as they please.
