The Effects of Being a Twin Some people, more than often, make the statement, “I wish I had twin.” Then I think to myself, “You do not know the half of it.” Most people would assume that being a twin is totally awesome with no life altering effects, but it can be quite challenging. Being a twin has so many effects and I face them every day of my life. The first effect twins may encounter from birth is the name situation. You may be called your twins name forever; some people may never get it right. Although my twin and I are fraternal, we still experience this effect. Sometimes this can be a hassle. For example, I may want a pair shoes but my parents have to buy two pairs instead of one just to avoid confrontation. Also, you may have to go without sometimes because there is just not enough money to get two. Having two of everything can be confusing too. The most annoying thing ever is that if there is only one of something you have to share. It is absolutely no way around this when being a twin. Another effect twin’s may face is needing space. It is very dreading being with the same person day and night. Sometimes you get tired of one another and just want to get away. Because my sister and I attend the same school, eat dinner together, and go out shopping with each other we sometimes get tired of one another. As a result we sometimes fight, and this tells us it is time for some space. It also adds stress to our lives because we know that we fight over the simplest things. Twins also experience a very close bond from birth. Identical twins tend to have a closer bond than fraternal twins. For this reason, twins always feel assured and are never lonely. Being a twin means having a forever lasting bond and always having someone to lean on. This effect is one that people who are not twins long for. Twins are often seen as a unit.
