Silver Linings Playbook
I mostly agree with Ashley’s opinion, but I do not believe Silver Linings Playbook is a formalistic movie. This is not a formalistic movie because there are no distortions or manipulations of reality (Giannetti 7). Also, formalistic movies use highly manipulated images that they look so different from the real thing ( Giannetti 524). They want the manipulated images to look beautiful or attractive to the eye (Giannetti 524). Silver Linings Playbook does not use manipulated images because the images and scenes deal with realistic issues, settings, and shots. Silver Linings Playbook is a realistic movie because it focuses on the characters, plot, story, and content more than form and technique (formalism) (Giannetti 5). Furthermore, it is realistic

    The word Hero is defined as “a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life.” The main character and narrator, Amir, shows traits of heroism in the novel many times mostly near the second half of the novel when he risks is own safety to return to Afghanistan to aid his father’s sick friend, or when he selflessly gives Wahid’s children money and his own watch.
