Katherine the Shrew Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew is comedy about Kathrine, an outspoken rebellious shrew. In this story she is paired up with Petruchio, a man who only wanted her for her money and so Bianca could marry one of her suitors. As time goes on Petruchio is able to tame his wife Katherine, at least somewhat. Taming of the Shrew has spun out many different versions of its story, mostly in movies. Both movie versions, Shakespeare Retold and 10 Things I Hate About You where based and modeled around the theme and story of Taming of the Shrew.     The historical and cultural contexts of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew (TTS) and the 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You (10TIH) differ exceptionally, resulting in the film’s expression of values unlike those expressed in Shakespeare’s original text. Shakespeare’s play was written during the Elizabethan era, during which the belief that men were superior to women was prevalent. This concept is centralised in TTS, through incorporation of a disputably misogynistic tone and the dominance of men consequently forcing Katherina into marriage and submission.     Feminism did not begin in any organized form until 1848 with the Seneca Falls convention, and “women began to realise that in order to transform society they would need their own organisations to do so”(Greenberg). Knowing this, it is obvious that feminism did not exist during Shakespeare’s era, and he was essentially doing something no one had ever had the gall to attempt before.
