In 1984 the citizens of Oceania were controlled over the telescreen placed in their apartment and in the streets as one way to regulate the lives of others. They also provided …show more content…
hidden microphones to keep watch on each member and brainwash the people of Oceania. In modern days government, still continuous to control citizens life through state control, the government have increased surveillance over the citizens in various ways such as social media and monitoring devices that has spy cameras. It allows to dictate how people live and interact in a daily basis on their life. Government has the power to listen to private conversations and even keep track of locations around the country. Moreover Military Government, F.B.I can have access to spy for any illegal behavior.
The novel shows another way to have control over the country through propaganda.
Propaganda was used to create false information and lies to the citizens of Oceania. Today, government and business administrator uses advertisements to gather/obtain sorts of information from American citizens. However, there is a difference from then to now. Winston described the poster BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU; the supported leader to the party as a portrait to persuade fear and love, but also reverence and paranoia. Fear because it could destroy people of Oceania if something was committed against the rule, and love because it protects and rules society (citate ) Months ago while Barack Obama was in charge of the office a poster was created with his portray with the slogan HOPE. The similarities between the novel and now where similar In their purpose due to the fact that his poster also created a form of reverence as his main goal was to make changes in America and provide a better future to all individual living in America. Basically the idea of the posters were to promote its idea and the message that it was
given.
The government wants control and power. Oceania had a thought police which arrested people without trial or questioning the individual and arrest people to obtain information from them. As a relevance of today’s century, the U.S government can detain a person without a trial and it is still not illegal. In both societies the government is not respecting anyone and violates one’s basic rights to privacy. Another relevance based on Governemt is the president of the United States; Donald Trump, in both societies the population make an unknown person a leader of powered figure and then creates of fear.
In conclusion, the citizens right to privacy has been taking away and both generate a dystopian world. The benefit of United States in different of almost any other country is the priority of having freedom to express and live humanly however it is been forgiven. Also there are pros and cons citizens are not acting respectfully, many people are showing that they are abusing from the liberty that they are giving and then expect privacy because it is very discomfort .
