Sharifian Govt 2305-73431 February 13, 2018 Civil Rights and Civil Liberties People fight for their rights and liberties and government had played vital role in dealing with issues to create it as a nation. 1 Most American thinks that civil rights and civil liberties are the major principles that protect freedoms of all. In most of the cases civil rights and civil liberties are used as a same thing but they are two different things. Civil rights are the basic right from unequal treatment on the basis of color, race, gender etc. 2 whereas civil liberties are the collective fundamental rights of people which protect the citizen from unwarranted government action. For example, Not giving the promotion from his job because of her gender, race is civil rights and first amendment of the Bill of rights allow people to follow any religion is civil liberty.
Among 27 amendments of US constitution developed by supreme courts 14th amendment has defined civil liberty. 14thamendent was one of the laws that save the peoples civil liberties. This is safety roadways. Federal government stated that DUI checkpoints are legal but in some of the states DUI checkpoints are consider as illegal. DUI checkpoints does not require search warrant because it setup for public safety to reduce drinking and driving and accident. Profiling is a short biological sketch of a subject that would help investigators to find out the characteristics and behaviors of criminal in many criminal cases. Well, there is some profiling that has potential of violating our civil liberties like Racial Profiling. I think some law enforcement officers suspect black or brown people for crimes more than white people. That’s why those people could be the suspect for uncommitted
