Comparative Analysis of Greek and Roman Temple Architecture The Parthenon in Athens The Pantheon in Rome
Today, I will attempt to compare two religious structures belonging to the Classical style of the Ancient Greek Architecture: the Parthenon of Athens (Greece) and the Pantheon in Rome (Italy). They both have visible differences and similarities in architecture and perhaps had parallel purpose and functions when they were built.
First of all, there is an abyss of time, about 600 years, separating these two constructions: the Greeks built their Parthenon during the High Classical Period in their culture, the building is dated by 447—432 BC. The Parthenon of Athens satisfies the plain needs of the younger culture of Ancient Greeks and reflects the simple architectural standards of the Doric order. The Roman Pantheon satisfies the needs of the older and more advanced Roman civilization and its building reflects the standards of the more advanced Corinthian order. The original purpose of both buildings was a combination of religious and political needs.
