Similarities Between Najmah And Nusrat

(AGG) During time of war in the village Golestan, Afghanistan a girl named Najmah and in the village Peshawar, Pakistan a girl named Nusrat both have many similarities as they go through conflicts throughout this story. (BS-1) Najmah, her mother Mada-jan, and her father Baba-jan go through many physical conflicts during this war. (BS-2) Nusrat and Najmah also go through many emotional conflicts during their travels of war. (BS-3) Despite the fact war puts a negative effect on these people, it also has a positive message as they move along. (TS) Najmah and Nusrat have many similar conflicts that other people witness during time of war.

“This maybe our last water until we get to Torkum” (89). Without food it’s hard to stay physically healthy and it’s a struggle to get to places without food to supply you energy many people go through this as refugees because there is not much food near them. (STEWE-2) Najmah goes through a physical conflict where she has very poor clothing on to protect her body from the snow and rock “we walk through the snow and rock and I feel the ice crystals between the soles of my feet and the soles of the sandals”(110). (SIP-A) Najmah perseveres through many physical and emotional conflicts in the book and she comes out a better stronger person. (STEWE-1) Najmah goes through conflict when her father is taken from her and Mada-jan. “I hear the pickup trucks leave, but I am struggling with Mada-jan and cannot see them”(18). Nur and Baba-jan are taken by the Taliban and are left to survive by themselves. (STEWE-2) No matter the challenge Najmah will go through it, to reunite with her family in the Kunduz hills. “I must pretend to be Shaheed if I am to look for my father and brother in Peshawar”(150). Najmah has learned to move on in war, for she is persevering to find her brother and father while she is stuck in a refugee camp. (STEWE-3) Najmah feels as if she has come out stronger after war “I am afraid of nothing not after what I’ve seen”(150). Najmah has gone through tough times in this war but this doesn't stop, as she says she “un-feared” and she will continue on no matter what. (SIP-B) Nusrat goes through many emotional conflicts through the death of Faiz and Margaret but she recovers back and stronger and more wise person. (STEWE-1) When Nusrat is a kid her sister Elaine died from a sickness.“but she thinks of Margaret almost every day”(23).
