Religious freedom is being allowed to believe in anything you like, and not be victimized by the people around you. Prior to 1700, the British North American colonies had conflicting outlooks on the extent of religious freedom in the new world based on the different acts of the British Empire and by the English origin of most of the settlers. New England was mostly comprised of Puritans, the Middle Colonies consisted of Quakers, and the South was more concerned about using the land to make money and didn’t emphasize on religion.…
Parallel Worlds: The Surprising Similarities (and Differences) of Country-and-Western and Rap In this article it basically talks about the similar and differences between Country and Western and Rap, and showing different examples of each. It states in the article that country western and rap are similar because their lyrics are important that they write in their songs, and both of the music's tells a story. Also, ideologies are espoused by these types of music are remarkably similar as well. The word ideologies are based on there the study of their ideas, nature, and source. The C&W and rap are depressingly similar because of the men of both genres are champion chauvinists. The word chauvinist meaning boastful, unreasoning devotion of one's race, sex, etc. It describes how each singer from rap or C&W are champion chauvinist. It talks about rap, and C&W having strong female voices. Another similar brought out was that both narrators are often criminals, but in some way there attitudes towards law differ. The issue in this article that I see is that it says that Country and Western view of the law enforcement is better than general public, also there is the fact that country and western contain a great deal of violence, crime, etc. But easily accepted by white Americans while rap arouses alarm and calls for labeling. The question is why? The author gives three major reasons for this argument one simplest, is the language of the music, the second reason is race, and the third reason is that why rap is so widely attacked is that it is closer to the mainstream American economic ideology than C&W is. Most of the violence in C&W and rap does not lie in the songs between the differing attitudes toward law enforcement but it is the way it is…
Music is truly an American artistic creation that all of us should be proud of. Unfortunately, we have two music types which in their beginnings were thought as a “Fly by Night” art. Thanks to the strong support, given by the loyal individuals who started these art forms; we are still blessed with a creative ingenuity of music called Rap, Country & Western. There are many similarities between rap and country & western (C&W). Primarily, the two genres of music have a strong history, different types of their music, and a unique use of the performer and instruments, and at times they both romance the opposite sex.…
In the reading “Racial Rhetoric and Cultural Frames” the main idea throughout this essay are all about the different frames of music. Specifically whether or not lyrics to different songs are harmful or are not harmful. In the article “What are Rappers Really Saying about the Police?” the main idea is about how the idea that rap music is harmful is challenging that theory. How after listening to the music…

Music is an incredible form of expression that requires tireless dedication and effort by musicians to master their craft so that they can efficiently convey said message to their audience. Due to this fact it is important to effectively understand and commit to knowledge, music, and it’s influence on the American people. More specifically, country music and its undeniable and irreversible changes to our societies dynamic.…
Music, a defining aspect of Human culture for centuries, is influenced heavily by the social institutions of the time. This can be most evident in “pop”, short for “popular”, music. Music is a demonstrative language of culture. It tells a story, conveys ideas, opinions, and emotions of life experiences. Music has the power to link generations. In recent history such themes include Jazz and blues, the Big Band era, country, rap, and various other genres of music. Each of these classes of music are drawn from and represent the particular culture and time of the background of the artist or the events that inspired it.…

In the world today there are hundreds of different genres of music that have been identified. Through a little research, you can often times see that most of the current genres of music were rooted in older genres such as jazz. This essay in particular will discuss hip hop which has roots stemming from jazz, blues, and also gospel music. In Understanding Black American Aspects in Hip Hop Cinema by Tani Sanchez, we see an excerpt where music scholar Craig Werner establishes a three step process in which hip hop music is associated with the gospel. These steps include “(1) acknowledging the burden; (2) bearing witness; (3) Finding redemption” (Sanchez 5). In the 1982 song “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, the group…
Hip hop is a cultural movement that began its journey during the early 1970s, among African American young children’s residing in the South Bronx in New York City. Afterwards, became popular outside of the African American community in the late 1980s and by the 2010s it became the most listened-to musical genre in the entire world. Furthermore, it consists of four fundamental elements, which represent the different manifestations of the culture: rap, turntablism, b-boying, and lastly graffiti art. The term hip hop is often used in a restrictive fashion as synonymous only with the oral practice of the rap music genre. The origin of the hip hop culture stems from the block parties of the Ghetto Brothers.…
In this paper, I think that the history and development of southern folk music may serve as an important role for seeing and growing of the southern race relations. I am not suggesting a causal relationship but an interactional one. Both the southern race relations and southern music are reflections of the social structure of the rural south. In the segregated south, white and black musical customs display the same differences, which have historically characterized white/black relations. This is not a lyrical study. Rather, it is a socio-historical analysis of regional popular culture, which focuses upon the interaction between two important features of that culture, race,…
For most people there is a specific type of music. Most people have their own music that speaks to them in different ways. There are several different types of music that I like, but my two favorites are Country and Hip- Hop. I can relate to country music because of the songs about life. Hip- Hop always gets me pumped for the gym.…
Most people, when they hear country music playing, associate it with the South. For some, when they hear rap music playing, they might associate it with crime and unethical moralities. Another example, is as a kid we would run around the yard with our hands in front of our mouths. When we would do this, and bring our hands back and forth in front of our mouths we would make a "wa-wa" noises. This type of noise I considered to be a chanting thing Native Americans would do for different type of occasions.…
This article, written by Shanara R. Reid, discusses the over-sexualization of women in rap/hip hop songs and music videos, and the possible social causes of this. It has become apparent nowadays that women are heavily degraded in all kinds of media in order to appeal to the male viewing audience. Scantily clad women partaking in provocative dance routines and actions has become a norm of music videos. Machismo ideals that stress the extreme superiority of men over women and encourage the representation of women almost as an item prevail among lyrics. African-American women are especially susceptible to this kind of treatment, and many, including the author of this journal article, believe that more should be done by these women to protect the good name of their own class of people.…
Music Lyrics being NON-VIOLENT Rap music can be considered a style of art, and a way for the artists to express feelings through their words on paper. However, there are quite a few rap artists that get criticized for their lyrics. In my essay, I want to discuss why rappers use certain lyrics in their music and why people shouldn’t believe that it causes violence among the younger generations. People shouldn’t censor the music just because of violent, vulgar and abusive messages it promotes to the world. I believe in my own mind, that there is a reason for these types of lyrics that rap artists use and I will simply explain those reasons in this essay. Rap has been called one of the most important music forces to emerge in two decades. It’s pounding beats and staccato rhymes exploded on the streets of the urban America in the early 1980s and since have become the theme music and lyrical heart of the vibrant youth culture called hip-hop ( SIRS 1993). There are many different types of rap artist. There are some that talk about money, some talk about righteousness, and the list goes on and on. Every rap artist had their own way of expressing themselves. There are those that talk about sex, drugs, and violence who receive the negative attention( SIRS 1993). People, think this so- called gangster rap is a bad influence on children in the world and that it promotes violence and that it also is abusive to women. Delores Tucker, head of national congress of black women has been among those pressuring different record companies to stop distributing gangster rap music. There were other significant names that participated in this action. Names like Senate Majority leader Bob dole, and former education Secretary William J. Bennett(Surveys, pg. 1). There are some rap artists that have been openly criticized for their lyrics. Rappers like Lil Kim, Too Short, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and a member from “Too Live Crew,” named Luke Skywalker. These rap artists in the past have been…
Venture Capitalists – They screen companies with good business ideas from bad ones and provide capital to the start-ups with good business ideas. The required return on capital for VCs is very high to compensate the shareholders for the higher risk in investing in new businesses, and this is achieved when VCs sell their stake in the business through IPOs or trade sale. Thus, VCs will work to ensure the business is sound so that it will fetch the highest possible price when going public.…
