Romeo and Jay Gatsby both are head over heals in love with their women, but the difference is between leading ladies, Juliet and Daisy. While Juliet is equally in love with Romeo and willing to do anything to be together, Daisy is more shallow and selfish. When it came down to the end, Juliet was willing to die with Romeo while Daisy wasn’t even capable of leaving Tom because she didn’t want to lose her status.

Capote tells the nonfiction story about the horrific murders that occurred in the 1950s regarding four members of the Clutter family that lived in Holcomb, Kansas. In their home the Clutters were tied up and brutally shot to death one by one in exchange for $52. Imagine the 1920's have been re-enacted, a time of luxurious parties and when things, didn’t seem to matter or mean as much as they do now. The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, gives you a picture of what the time period was like. It was a time known as the "Jazz Age", where the economy was at its peak, and money was easy to be held. Prohibition was in affect, and bootlegging was very gainful for those who took part in it. Jay Gatsby most likely took part in an illegal business scheme, such as bootlegging, to make his fortune. Tom Buchanan, on the other hand though, acquired his wealth through inheritance. The plot of The Great Gatsby seemingly also revolves around a girl, Daisy Buchanan, whom Tom and Gatsby both love in different ways. However, they are similar as they both want to be able to call Daisy “mine.” In The Great Gatsby, although Tom and Gatsby strive to be financially successful and maintain a high social class, and they both love Daisy in a way, they are two completely different people with different personalities and morals.…

In “The Great Gatsby,” written by Scott Fitzgerald, Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby are two characters that struggle with the idea of losing their shared love interest, Daisy. Tom and Gatsby’s attachment to Daisy is differently justified due to their contrasting views, personalities, attitudes, actions, backgrounds, and other factors, some of which they do share and concur in. Fitzgerald did a great thing here. He created two purposefully different characters- one that is easily despised, the other that although not perfect, is likable- and united them in their love for money, the power that comes with it , and their haunt for the ultimate prize – Daisy. In this essay, we will analyze Tom and Gatsby’s differences and similarities in several areas, and decide whether or not they are perfect foils of each other like they are commonly perceived to be.…

Countee Cullen’s poem The Loss of Love deals with a theme that contrasts with Daisy and Gatsby’s fleeting dalliance in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby. To illustrate, Cullen writes, “I have no will to weep or sing, / No least desire to pray or curse; / The loss of love is a terrible thing; / They lie who say that death is worse” (Cullen 20-24). Cullen has no will or hope to even pray that his lover will return. He is adamant that a loveless life is not worth living and that even death is less fatal than the loss of love. While, admittedly, I do think that Gatsby is a romantic, he is certainly not hopeless. For example, Jordan Baker, a character in The Great Gatsby, says, “Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across…

In "The Great Gatsby", Daisy cannot help herself from loving Gatsby even though it is wrong since she is married to Tom. "I did love him once, but I loved you too".(p.g 126) Daisy cannot chose who to love and she is doing whatever her heart feels is right. In "A Million Little Pieces", James and Lilly are not allowed to be together and in a relationship because of rules made by the treatment facility but James does not care. James and Lilly meet each other at their secreting meeting place and let their hearts out. These are similarities because in both novels, the characters are blindly in love, and are only following their hearts. Another horrible thing that love causes is putting yourself into trouble for the one you love. In "The Great Gatsby", Gatsby loves Daisy more than his own life and he was willing to do whatever it took to make Daisy his forever. For example when he takes the blame on himself for when Daisy was driving his car and Myrtle ran into it. "Was Daisy Driving?" Yes but of course i'll say I was."(p.g 151) Gatsby did not think about what would happen after he puts everything on himself because he was too busy trying to save Daisy so she would not get into trouble. Similarly, in "A Million…

The plays, “Romeo and Juliet” and “Othello” were both written by one of the most influential writers of all time, also known as William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet was a story about two families who were in a serious feud. A boy and a girl from each family also known as Romeo and Juliet, fell deeply in love with each other. Since their families despised each other, there was a lot of drama. Long story short, Romeo thought Juliet was dead when she actually wasn’t so he killed himself. Juliet later found out that he killed himself so she killed herself. In “Othello”, Othello, a Muslim, was a general during the 1600’s. Racism was strong back then so a lot of people didn’t like him. Othello was married to a girl named Desdemona. A man named Iago didn’t like Othello and wanted him dead. He had this evil plan to kill Othello and it ended up working.
