Similarities Between 'Roofie And' A Midsummer Night's Dream
In the article “”Roofie” Reality: Drink Spiking Effects Many College Students” by Sarah G. Miller and the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare display similar aspects in both the article and the play. The authors use these details in their works to reveal the themes openly to its readers. In Shakespeare's play, Titania's love for Bottom can be compared to “roofie” cases in college students as the cause of manipulation from drugging and influencing the victims, the occurrence of it occurring more then once and self protection for the offenders getting away with the actions they have performed. Both article and play illustrate the offenders as cruel people causing mischief and disaster for their own wellbeing and pleasure. …show more content…
Puck puts the liquor into the young Athenian lovers eyes multiple times. Puck attempts to follow Oberon’s instructions. Puck although is confused and puts it into Lysander’s eyes rather than Demetreous. Puck continues to fix his mistakes, though he only makes it worse. The scene and storyline really shows one can’t choose who one will love for them (III. ii. 87-91). The recurring event is evident in comparing the information to the article as it affects one in thirteen people and Puck effects multiple people in the play as well. Puck and the mischievous deeds he does continues to occur. Likewise to the amount of new “roofie” cases coming forward. Lastly Miller’s article is reported to look at the victims rather than the culprits. The reason is because the culprits get away with their actions and are not exposed. Most roofie cases are ignored because it’s hard to find the culprits and is not as important as other issues in social justice. Justice for these cases and the victims are often avoided and moved on from. Leaving the culprits out there with no punishment for their actions

I am Kaitlyn Luepann and I am portraying the fairy attendants Peaseblossom, Bottom, Cobweb, and the “jester fairy” Puck From William Shakespeare’s play, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” I will be portraying all these characters as one character with characteristics of all four. The ways I am going to adapt the characters that I am portraying are for me to have a witty sense of humour, yet have common courtesy and manners, and have respectful body language and a humourous tone of voice because the three fairy attendants are very respectful, but Puck is humourous. How I adapt all of the fairies body language and tone of voice from the play to the modern day is to be a respectful Starbucks worker, who cracks jokes in a funny manner while customers…

Lysander and Hermia, both young and well-off, are unpermitted, according to the Ancient Privilege, to wed each other without the approval of Hermia’s father, Egeus. However, not quite prepared to end their relationship, the lovers very ambitiously and suddenly run into a nearby forest. They have done so without considering the consequences, and as a result, find themselves lost. Lysander suggests this, when he says, “Fair love, you faint wandering in the wood, and in truth, I have forgot our way,” (II. ii. 41-42). Later in the play, the duke of Athens, Theseus, overbears Egeus’ will, and insists Lysander and Hermia wed each other on his marriage day. Hermia, in quickness and happiness, agrees, without considering her father’s reaction. By doing so, she may be sacrificing her relationship with him. In both situations, the young Athenians pay no attention to the consequences of their relationship, which supports the idea that love ignores all…

“If we wanted to think about the device in psychological terms, we could see the nested worlds, and double characters as representing the conscious (Theseus and the court), the unconscious (Oberon and the fairies), and the world of art, dream, and fantasy (Peter Quince and the “actors”; “Bottom’s Dream”) that mediates between them.” – Marjorie Garber, Shakespeare After All, 221-222…

A Midsummer Night Dream is a play written by the late William Shakespeare. This play is about a love triangle how one loves the other when the other does not like them until finally it all ends in a resolution, as they have a secret fairy world looking over at them, this play is almost like a mix between the fantasy world and the real! Bottom is one of the characters in this play, and in this play Bottom is a humorous and confident character, although being intelligent in other fields Bottom is not a very clever or educated man. Bottom and his fellow workmates are named the “rude mechanicals”, unsophisticated men but rather great tradesmen, working not with the mind but with the hands, though Bottom may be labeled a “rude mechanical” in many…

At the Start of a Midsummer Night’s Dream the relationships between the lovers, Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius are very confusing. Hermia is being forced by her father, Egeus, to marry Demetrius which she doesn’t love but he loves her. Hermia loves Lysander and he loves her. Helena loves Demetrius In Act 3 scene 2 and nobody loves Helena. The relationships between the lovers change because Puck puts a love potion first, on Lysander’s eyes and then on Demetrius’s eyes so that the first person they saw when they woke up, they loved. So now both Demetrius and Lysander love Helena. Helena still loves Demetrius and, Hermia still loves Lysander. But now nobody loves Hermia.…

In contrast, Ariel refers to Prospero as ‘you’ whereas Prospero refers to Ariel as ‘thou’. This highlights the formal and informal behaviour of the two fairies and their masters’ respectively. The reason for this is because Puck is like a friend to Oberon and is thus free to make mistakes although he is scolded for making them. Conversely Ariel is a slave who is not at liberty to make mistakes as his promise of freedom will be put in jeopardy. The friendly relationship between Oberon and Puck requires Oberon to ask Puck for favours whilst Prospero commands Ariel to carry out tasks.…

The passage I chose was from A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. In this passage, Lysander falls in love with Helena after being accidentally struck with the love juice by Puck. However, Helena does not interpret it the same way and thinks that Lysander is mocking her and leaves. Then, Lysander says that he never wants to see Hermia again and leaves her alone while she is sleeping. Hermia awakes from a nightmare where her heart was being eaten out by a serpent and Lysander stood, smiled, and watched it happen.…
