Similar to her serious tone, Kearns as well had a freighting tone. In the article “Nurse-on-Nurse Hostility Remains an Issue” Kearns (2010) stated, “Bartholomew addresses how and why back-stabbing, intimidation, and sabotage are all too common on some nursing floors” (para. 7). This
quote use by Sarah Kearns is describing the big problems nurses face in their workplace. The only problem is that this is an example of the frightening tone Kearns uses. It is an example because it is showing the cruelty and scary things nurses have to go through every day in order to convince the reader about the problem. To differentiate from Kearns tone, Simons tone in his article was considered calm and casual. The reason the tone was calm and casual was because in the entire article, Simons was not trying to convince the reader about anything, instead he was very unbiased and informed about the research he had conducted.
