Similarities Between The Great Gatsby And A Doll's House
Some of the world’s greatest works of literature often share qualities and themes with one another, but vary as the writing progresses. This is extremely evident when comparing two important characters in the writings, The Great Gatsby and A Doll’s House. The stories consist of two women, Nora and Daisy, who struggle with societal norms of their time period. Throughout the writings, Nora and Daisy, who once shared similar points of view evolve and develop views with different perspectives from one another. Daisy, an influential character from The Great Gatsby, loves the thought of fortune and does whatever it takes to acquire it in her superficial fantasy. She falls in love at a young age to a man named Jay Gatsby but he goes off to war.

Daisy does not change throughout the novel, instead she becomes even more careless and immoral. She cares only about herself and her well-being. Daisy proves this when she lets Gatsby take the fall for Myrtle’s murder. Gatsby confesses to Nick, “Yes, but of course I’ll say I was” (151). She knowingly allows Gatsby to be blamed and in return this causes him to get murdered. Not only does she cause Gatsby’s death, she does not even take the time to attend his funeral. Nick states, “I called up Daisy half an hour after we found him, called her instinctively and without hesitation. But she and Tom had gone away early that afternoon, and taken baggage with them” (172). Daisy is so arrogant that she does not even have the decency to attend a funeral of the man she “loved”. Daisy settles for Tom at the end of the novel not because she loves him but because she has no other choice. With Gatsby gone, she merely stays with Tom for the sake of her benefit. Daisy is too scared of what society and the unknown would bring if she were to leave. Daisy stays with Tom solely because she needs that
