Simon Sinek Start With Why Analysis
Start with why (2011) by author Simon Sinek

In this book Simon Sinek asks the question why certain companies or people are more innovative, inspiring and successful than others. He codifies this pattern they use for their success and calls it the golden circle.

What we found less interesting: The manipulation of companies to make consumption of products lager en the techniques used for this. This is something that has been discussed in the media a lot.

The parts we found more interesting: The golden circle with why, how and what. The ways leaders inspire people instead of manipulate them. Why Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy could still inspire people after their death. This is also an inspiring way for a company or organization

Sharing Blakely's opinion on perseverance, Steve Jobs reminds us that the key of success in life is continuing to come back and keep going. It is easy to look at successful business people and assume their fame and money came overnight, with no particular effort or failure, yet, rarely is that the case. By the time these "overnight" successes come to our attention, they have usually put in years or even decades of long, hard and dedicated work.…

In examining what made outliers like Bill Gates and the Beatles such phenomenal successes, Gladwell hits upon the important role played by opportunity. In each case, these successful people are given opportunities that most others do not have. In the case of Bill Gates, he goes to a school that owns a computer terminal connected to a large central computer. This is unusual in the 1960s and 1970s, when computers are room-sized devices costing millions of dollars and are owned only by large universities and corporations. Gates is able to start u…

I have found this video very interesting and not like anything I have ever heard. Simon Sinek, an author and motivational speaker, has been explaining who millennials are, what their parents have done for them and what they expect from life and in the workplace. Simon also detailed on why the rest of the generations see the millennials as being self interested, narcissistic and lazy. But most of all entitled because of the way they were raised by their parents, how they are addicted to their phones, the way they are impatient, then their environment.…

    Built to Last

One of the central principles presented in Built to Last is the importance placed upon building the company, rather than relying exclusively on building a specific product or service. Collins and Porras use the metaphor of clock-building versus time-telling to illustrate this point. The distinction is drawn between leaders who are able to merely "tell the time" and those which are capable of "building a clock". Charismatic managers tell the time – they have exceptional skills in the here and now. However, truly great leaders build the clock – they create a company culture that can succeed far beyond the term of any one leader or the life of a product. Visionary companies don't simply follow others in their field, they tend to lead the way. While having a great product or operational idea is time-telling, creating an organization that has the capacity to succeed through many product life-cycles, and under successive leaders, is clock-building. This metaphor shatters the myth that truly successful companies require charismatic leaders or innovative product ideas. Contrary to popular thinking, most visionary companies are not typically top-heavy with overly charismatic leaders. In this type of organization, the company…
