Summary Of Simon Sinek's Start With Why
In today’s society, leadership is viewed and displayed in a variety of different ways however, the true meaning of leadership is often construed. Being a leader means taking on many responsibilities such as, establishing a clear vision, sharing that vision with others so that they will follow willingly, provide the information, knowledge and methods to realize that vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicting interests of all members and stakeholders (Business Dictionary, 2017). In the reading Start with Why; How great leaders inspire everyone to take action, by Simon Sinek, describes the powerful model for inspirational leadership by intricately describing the golden circle and its benefits as well as its down falls. In the reading, Sinek describes that the thing that differentiates leaders from everyone else is their thinking process. It is clear, that many individuals have the tendency to start from the outside of the circle and make our way in which in turn leaves the individual with little to no results. Sinek describes that the inspired leaders and inspired organizations regardless of their size and regardless of their industry all act and communicate from the inside out (2009). These leaders all know why they are doing what they do and understand the purpose and cause of the leadership role they are holding which then transpires into how they carry out their position. Those whom you are leading do not follow nor show up because it is you who is leading but simply show up because of why you are leading and the similar interests and values that are shared. A wonderful example Sinek provided was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how the followers he had did not show up for him but showed up to listen to his values, thoughts, prayers and dreams and positively relate them to their own which is why Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a legendary …show more content…
Starting with why in the military as well as any other professional setting is the sole foundation to your success as a leader. When a leader knows why they are doing what they are doing, the end result is that much more effective and becomes less difficult to gain the trust of your subordinates if your “why” and “how” are noticeable in your leadership skills. As a future leader, it is crucial that I lead in a way that inspires others to trust that I have identified a route and am leading them to the correct destination so that they too will have the ability to bring their visions to life. However, these lessons I have learned not only apply to my future leadership positions but also to the present. As I continue to go through the program I am constantly identifying my strengths as well as my weaknesses and am learning how to amplify my levels of motivation as well as inspiration.     There are few questions that are of interest to each and every human being. These questions intrigue us at least once in our lifetimes, many times in general. Even though they hold such importance we still do not know the answers to them, the Why’s, the How’s, what’s. The question here is success. And over a long period of time great minds have tried to give us varying definitions of success and how to obtain it. The "what" describes the products or services that the company is selling; in other words, it is what they do. "How" explains how companies get to what they do or how companies achieve their goals, their implementation and "Why" is the vision, purpose, belief which underlies the how and the what. The “Why” is essentially the reason why the company exists and makes those products for us i.e. the motto of the company or “why” is it’s “why we do what we do”.
