El Chapo has also been using western and northern Africa as a hub for smuggling drugs into Europe and further into Africa to Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Congo, and Sierra Leone. The DEA has also reported the Guinea-Bissau military aiding the cartel in the transportation and storage of their product. There are also records of the Guinea-Bissau government selling surface-to-air missiles to bring down U.S. helicopters in Columbia. These weapons could also be accessible to FARC, Colombian terrorist organization, which also works hand in hand with the Sinaloa Cartel in Africa. The FARC and the Sinaloa Cartel are also expanding operations in the Middle East. In China the Hong Kong Triads provide chemicals to the Sinaloa Carter for the production of methamphetamine. This relationship could also extend back to the U.S. as the Triads have connections with Black Star, Black Dragons, Tiny Rascal Gangsters, and the Wah Ching Asian gangs with members in Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit. In 2013 a drug bust of about 80 kilos with members of the Sinaloa Cartel was made in the Philippines as the organization continues to take advantage of emerging

Domestic usage, while of great concern to the country , was only one piece of the drug trade involving the islands. According to the Scott Report, there are two main aspects of the narcotics trade: Cocaine imported for domestic use, cocaine imported to be repackaged and shipped by international drug lords. These unique yet highly interconnected markets both create actors with massive relative wealth concentration. Two strata of narco-oligarchs emerged in Trinidad and Tobago as a result of the drug trade: the domestic kingpin, and the international trafficker. The domestic kingpin being a byproduct of the international drug trade passing through the country, their role cannot be understood without comprehension of the international drug trade, and its relation to these Islands. The Cali and Medellin cartels, Colombian cocaine producers had two primary routes for exporting their product to the United States and Europe, by land and by sea. The land route entailed travel through central America, entering the United States via the border with Mexico. To reach Europe and the Atlantic coastline, cartels would bring their product to Trinidad or Tobago, either via airdrop or clandestine boat landings leaving from the shores of Venezuela. With no restrictions on trade and movement between the two islands, shipments to either could be transported to Port-of-Spain for…

The group was founded in 1964, when it declared its intention to overthrow the government and install a Marxist regime. But tactics changed in the 1990s, as right-wing paramilitary forces attacked the rebels, and the FARC became increasingly involved in the drug trade to raise money for its campaign. The rebels still control rural areas, particularly in the south and east, where the presence of the state is weak” ("Profiles: Colombia's armed groups - BBC News",…

Since Reagan’s declaration, the war on drugs has been a dismal failure. The New York Times book review quantifies the extent of the war’s failed approach, saying that it is hard to think of a single lasting accomplishment. (Guillermoprieto). Eradication efforts have worked against what the war intended to do, and have actually increased drug production in Latin American countries. The following publication is rife with manipulation and corruption of Mexico 's highest regarded political positions and jurisdictions. Former Mexican President Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado officially declared drug trafficking a national security threat in early 1988. The United Nations estimate that 70% of the drugs flowing into the United States comes directly from Mexican drug trafficking cartels. Mexican cartels rely heavily on bribes and corruption as a means to infiltrate the Mexican political system. To the Mexican cartels, bribes and corruption is viewed as nothing more than, "the cost of doing business". A study by the National Autonomous University in Mexico City found that cocaine traffickers spend as much as 500 million a year on bribery. This calculates to almost $1,000 dollars in payoffs for each Kilo of smuggled cocaine. Mexico 's efforts of eradicating its deadly but lucrative drug industry have been severely bound by the rampant manipulation and corruption of the Mexican political system. A high level of corruption in Mexico remains as one of the most significant obstacles from eradicating the illicit drug trade operations and bringing a resolve to the ongoing drug war. As long as corruption continues to dominate the Municipal and Judicial systems of Mexico, it will remain a "failed state". And Mexico 's search of achieving a prosperous and stable democracy will continue to elude them.…

One of the major issues facing Latin America is the production and distribution of illegal drugs, which include cocaine, marijuana, heroin and more recently methamphetamine. This geographic area is crucial to the illegal drug industry because it is the world’s only source region for coca, which is used to produce cocaine (this is harvested in Colombia, Peru and Bolivia). Also, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean are the main corridors for transporting drugs to the United States and Europe. The United States is the primary consumer of these products, but around 25 to 30 percent of global cocaine production travels from Latin America to Europe, typically via West Africa. The major drug traffickers and trafficking organizations usually take in about a total of $18 to $39 billion dollars on drug wholesales per year.…
