Single Parents
Single Parent Problem

For many years, children growing up in a single parent family have been viewed as different. With much speculation, this topic has become a very intriguing argument. What people must understand is that properly raising a child does not rely on the structure of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these children as they learn to mature.

Being raised by only one parent seems impossible to many yet over the decades it has become more prevalent. In today’s society many children have grown up to become emotionally stable and successful whether they had one or two parents to show them the rocky path that life bestows upon all human beings. Children of single parents can be just as progressive with emotional, social and behavioral skills as those with two parents.

People claim that the only way for children to gain full emotional and behavioral skills is to be raised by both a mother and a father. The problem lies in the difference of children raised by single parents versus children raised by both a mother and a father. Does a child need both parents?

Children who are raised with both a mother and a father have more attention from both parents therefore they get the emotional time they need to progress in life. It would not be beneficial at all to grow up in a two-parent family who did nothing but argue and put each other down. Naturally, a child who sees this from a very young age until they are ready to be out on their own would only follow in the footsteps of all that they have ever known. Not all families are lucky enough to have a healthy structure. In my opinion children’s needs respect and strong moral values so one day they can pass on to their family.

Educational outcomes from the sole parent family review a critical problem of the wellbeing of the children when compared to that of the children in double-parents family. On average, compared with peers from double-parents families, adolescents living with a single mother or with mothers who were remarried or cohabiting experience more behavioral problems and lower levels of academic performance. According to “Parental Divorce and the Well- Being of Children: A Meta-Analysis” written by Paul R. Amato and Bruce Keith, compared to children living in double-parents families, children living in single-mother families, single-mother families with cohabiting partners, and married families with stepfathers were more likely to drop from school; more likely to do delinquent activities ,more…

Statistics show eighty-five percent of youth in prison, seventy-one percent of high school dropouts, ninety percent of homeless and runaway children have an absent father. Fatherless children and youth exhibit higher levels of: depression and suicide, delinquency and teen pregnancy, behavioral problems, illicit and licit substance abuse, diminished self-concepts, and are more likely to be victims of exploitation and abuse (Kruk 49). I believe both parents should be equally responsible in raising a child, physically and emotionally. Both parents should help each other raising a child to set an example of how a family should look like instead of putting everything on just one of them. If both parents work as a team in up-bringing a child it enriches the child's life, giving him or her much more stimulus along with enhancing self-confidence and influences their personality. Ultimately both parents influence the future life of a child and how he or she will perceive the world, along with their levels of happiness, morality and productiveness, and their academic successfulness.…

He reported that the majority of these children are raised by single mothers and when the father is absent it increases the chances of the children being less successful in school, prone to drug use, and this has a greater effect on boys than girls. The author asserts that not much research has been focused on the resilience of single parent families, but more focus has been put on the absentee-father families and their disadvantages. The author suggests that children of single parent homes perform lower than dual parent homes across the board, in academics and other cognitive aspects no matter the ethnicity, education of the parents, or if they were married when the child was born. This includes parents who are remarried to individuals who are not the biological parents. Barajas discovered that income has less to do with the success of the children than quality time and parent-child ratio in the home. Research suggests having a strong support network aids in the resilience of these families.…

The author talks about the child's conscience, empathy, and self control development. It is important and the parents duties to mold that development of the child while he grows up. A child can grow up with a single parent and be successful. Perfect example is our current President Barrack Obama. His mother took care of him alone while he was growing up because his father was absent and because of his mother is why he is at being our US President. He also knows that there is an importance of an absent father, the importance of that bond that imprints on a child, but it didn't mean…

In a household where the mother and father are the biological parents of their children, that family tends to do well over all. When there is both the mom and dad the child has more of a chance to learn and grow. As a child explores their surroundings they need the support from both parents. When exploring and experimenting, children need a male influence to reinsure themselves. The male presence also plays a big role when developing motor skills. Unlike most mothers, fathers are usually more “rough” with their child and are physical with them. Such as tossing the child in the air or pushing them done a slide. On the other hand, mothers are the reinsurance in love and care that children need. Although playing with dad might be fun, every now and again the child will end up getting hurt. And the mother is called on to take care of the child. Quite often when children are young, they will first look for a reaction from the people around them to figure out how they should react. And when a child sees his mothers reaction he is more likely to copy her. A mother is also there to nurture the child in self-care such as bathing and keeping objects organized. Mothers and fathers play huge roles in a child’s life. The mothers show the child how to have patients, love, and how to…

Finances are a very important key in caring for children. Single parents have to face many challenges related to finances. Sometimes single parents have to work multiple jobs to make payment deadlines. Also most single parents have to depend on government assistance to cover basic necessities like food and clothing. Depending on the government for assistance is not how a parent planned on raising his or her child. Parents believe in working to provide for their children and not to feel like a failure. It is not easy when only one income is coming into the home. In a two parent home when both parents are working money is not a big issue. There is always a source of income steadily flowing into the home. Families with both parents do not have to apply for any type of government assistance and worry about the children’s food or clothing needs. Not only are food and clothing are issues, but also making bill deadlines are a struggle. Single parents have to apply for extensions from the gas company because a check is late. Sometimes they even have to sacrifice some things for the kids to pay bills. Finances in a two parent home are much greater than a single parent home with only…

Responsibility, most parents don’t realize how much they take for granted by giving their children some responsibilities. I agree that children need to have a few responsibilities, but some receive far too many. Children who are being raised by two parents may only receive a few responsibilities that they are required to do each day after school, but nothing compared to the children that are being raised in a single parent household. These children may have to either get supper started or make their own because the parent may have to work late. Plus, if there are younger siblings involved, naturally the oldest child would be responsible for looking after them. Now, what if…

This essay focuses on the issue of single parenting as one of the most effective family problems. A single parent is a parent who lives with one or more children without the second parent it could be either a dad or a mom. Usually the definition of single parenting depends on the local laws throughout different states, but there are other circumstances as well that could lead to single parenting, for example if a parent is left alone after getting divorced, if one of the parent just leaves the family or the child, if one of the parent is put to the jail or dies. Sometimes the single parent might not be the real father or mother of the child, some people decide to adopt a child or become a parent through implantation of babies or just take care of a family member child, who was abandoned by his real parents. The household of a single parent is very different from a normal household. But all the circumstances are distinctive, some Parents decide to become single parents if they see a relationship is not going well or if they see there might be a lot of family problems that might affect the child, and some have to do it if something happens like the loss of a the second parent. There are a lot of negative effects about being a single parent. For example, making decisions can be really hard sometimes and most of the time parents need that second person there to be able to make the best decision that will benefit the child and the parent. Frequently single parents do not have sufficient time to do all the house work and this involves children from the early age in doing house jobs which takes time away from them to do school work or other things. Single parents have to tell most of house problems to a child which doesn’t not help the child, they have to discuss these problems like if the child was an adult. If the other parent is alive they have to…
