Sinkhole
Sink Hole 03-03-2013

I have to say that hearing on the news about a man being swallowed by a sinkhole in Florida, while sleeping in his own bed was startling. To hear his brother relay the story of what happened and his despair over not being able to find and safe his brother was heart wrenching. Sure does make you consider life in a new and different way, at least it did for me.

When we go to bed at night Allen and I often say how thankful we are to live in this country, in this area, in our house, in a safe area and have a clean comfortable bed. Plus to have each other, without a thought of how quickly all of that can change.

We never know what the next minute can bring, like this man in Florida. Assuming that he would get some rest and be ready for the next day. I often rock along with full belief that that all is well and tomorrow will dawn with me still in my sense of security.

Knowing Jesus and knowing that I have asked Him into my life as my Savior has given me a sense of security and comfort. But do I take all of this for granted like the guy in Florida?

I am finding that I need to continue to add to my security by relying on God’s Word and wanting to be more like Jesus. I have been a Christian for years but must admit until the last year or so I had not been diligently seeking God and getting to know Him better so that my relationship with Him is all that it can be.

Like the song “The Old Rugged Cross Made the Difference” I know that the cross made the difference for me. I hope that it has made the difference for you. That if the ground opened up and swallowed you are I, we would know that Jesus was there. Do we know that the tomb could not hold Him and won’t hold us either? Praise God, I do believe.

Life is comprised of a series of learning profound learning experiences. On that stands out occurred last year in seventh grade. Two friends and I decided we wanted to try something new, to learn how to play basketball! We made that decision mainly because we wanted to do an activity together for the winter term, and seventh graders didn't have the option of doing the winter school play. We were very hesitant; only one of us had any experience playing basketball, and we didn't think it would be very fun to run up and down a court trying to get a ball in a hoop. Still we kept an open mind and began to learn how to play.…

That day made me realize how much our family is united and this day put our strength to the test and we didn't let it break us. It actually brought us even…

When my step father committed suicide, it was the most shocking yet influential experience of my life. The whole situation expanded my understanding of mortality, spirituality, and of just how fragile happiness is. I can still remember the day that it happened; It was unlike any other day. I was in school when brother picked me up after lunch. We met up with my mother, and brother at my grandmother's house. The entire atmosphere was off. No one was acting like themselves. Immediately I knew something was wrong, even if their expressions and body language were not obvious enough. After sitting in the living room for what seemed like an eternity, I went into the next room where I found my mother who was crying, and when I asked what was wrong…

An event I've experienced that was life changing was when I obtained the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. It was an affirmation of years of disciplined work and study to have such a prestigious honor bestowed upon me. In scouting, I developed various moral and ethical tenants that have shaped my foundation in life. Tenants like integrity, honor, reverence, faith in God, a man's role and his responsibility to his family, and a nearly innumerable quantity of experiences growing under the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America have molded me into who I am today in my very core of being. The realization of my dream to become an Eagle Scout took 11 years to obtain, so I'm no stranger to adversity or perseverance. To my memory,…

A big event that has changed my life was when my older brother moved away to go to the navy. This changed my life cause I did not know if I was ever going to see him again. When he told me he was leaving and not going to be back for awhile i thought he was leaving because of me, I was a little brat back then so yeah and at the age i was i thought everything was my fault. The day my brother left was probably the saddest thing to ever happen because me and him would always hang out and play video games or walk around town or do something fun. I remember when we dropped him off at the airport i was clinched on to his leg and i was refusing to let go because I didn’t want him to leave. Now that i look back on it i think one of the reasons why i didn’t want him to leave is because he was kinda like my best friend/ role model so yeah and well he is my older brother and I didn’t want anything to happen to him.…

Every single one. For example, when I volunteered at Ben Taub hospital, in the first few weeks, I had to experience seeing people in their death in the emergency room and having their families come over to say their last goodbye. I got through the day but at night before going to bed, it would break down in tears because I haven’t experienced such situation before. My parents would both come hug me and tell me it’s just a part of life. We are born, live and die.…

If you can tell that a sinkhole is starting to develop, you can get specialists to fill the sinkhole in with like solid grout or cement. Dirt isn’t used because a sinkhole is a conduit -which means that there could be electrical cables in it- to an underlying aquifer- a layer of earth or rock that allows water to pass through or that contains water.…
