5. Why have the problem (s) you cite emerged? Identify the causal chain (the events or circumstances that caused the problem-Some will be Internal Weaknesses, others EXTERNAL Threats).
The primary problem has emerged is due to three factors. First, since Connie will be retiring and St. Marseille would like Skadurz Pro to be family-owned, managing both stores would be very difficult and challenging. The second and third factors, both, determine which of two store locations to keep open. There is competition moving in across the street of the New Sudbury location, and the building Skadurz Pro rents from is closing, and there is no indication if the new owner will keep St. Marseille/Skadurz Pro as a tenant.
6. What are the characteristics of the industry that the company is in and how is the industry changing over time?

9. What are the advantages and possible disadvantages of your solution(s)?
Once clear advantage to hiring another manager would to increase sales for Skadurz Pro and St. Marseille would have more free time to check out and see what new products are out on the market. A disadvantage of this would be that Skadurz Pro wouldn’t be a family run business.
10. Are there any possible problems with your suggested recommendations? What contingencies need to be accommodated?
Possible problems with my recommendation would be that there might be a decrease in sales, especially if West 49 opens across the street from the New Sudbury location. Contingencies that would need to be accommodated is the need for a new manager, or even assistant manager, to help provide the success St. Marseille has been having in the success of his business, Skadurz Pro.
Case Study Analysis Narrative Format
Firm Overview and Introduction to the Case
Joel St.
Marseille must make a decision regarding the future of Skadurz Pro and its two retail stores. Joel’s mother (who is acting as a manager at one location) is retiring, a major competitor is opening a store near one Skadurz Pro location, and the building the second location is in is being sold by the owner. Joel must decide whether to manage both Skadurz locations himself, close one of the stores and manage just one location (and if this option is chosen, which location should be kept? The location nearest a competitor or the one that would require Joel buy the building it is in?), or to sell the entire business. Joel's objective is to choose the option that will yield the greatest long term profits and personal satisfaction, and to do it as quickly as possible because time is money.
