Critics argue that summer camps take children’s attention away from the other friends that children might have in their hometown. However, children already get to see these people for the other nine months out of the year. They go to school with the children of their hometown, play sports with them, and even attend parties with them. Children that go to summer camps have the opportunity to meet other types of people. They will meet children that come from different areas of the country, have different cultures, and have had very different experiences. These new friendships that are forged in the few weeks that children are at summer camp allow children to experience more of the world than just their hometown, and to learn about the lives of people that do not live near them.
