once confronted but only to a certain extent when she believed her theory was right compared to what a textbook or a teacher told her. Overall, these students were so invested in their false beliefs because they were either trying to fill the holes in what they have been taught or they were never confronted on why their belief is wrong.
Personally, somewhere along the line I have possibly had some false beliefs pertaining to education. Specifically, many of my false beliefs in science pertaining to marine biology have been challenged greatly. During junior year of high school, I volunteered at the National Aquarium, located in Baltimore, Maryland. During the lectures while in training experts who spent several years studying specific animals came in to explain the certain traits of an animal. My false beliefs were challenged and it was my decision if I wanted to except the new information. I had the choice to use it as a new belief or continue to believe in my own false beliefs because it made more sense. I chose to except the new belief because it came from a professional who was more educated than I in that specific area.
