SMELLy students…how annoying they can be to others? There are many different types of smell. Some smells are pleasant like aroma, fragrance and scent, are normally present on food, perfumes and flowers. They can be good but sometimes intolerable. * Fresh air and light: This is very important for children to be healthy. When we take the children outside we are also giving them the opportunity to breathe in fresh oxygenated air which is essential for growing children and also giving them plenty of vitamin D from sunlight. Our class rooms are also very well ventilated and this ensures that the air is always circulating in and out of the class room and they all face an outside area to allow sunlight to enter the class room throughout the day. This is important because young children don’t yet know that they must cover their mouth when they cough to prevent germs from spreading (this is promoted though activities in class and also posters in the corridors). So if the air is well ventilated then germs are being reduced from spreading around. Light is also very important to our health because this is linked to hormone regulation and this can…

In The Cosmopolitan Canopy, the author, Elijah Anderson, discusses and describes public areas in the city of Philadelphia, where diverse groups of people can mingle and relax in peace, despite their differences. Anderson refers to these public spaces as “cosmopolitan canopies.” According to the author, who has lived and worked in different areas of Philadelphia for over 30 years, the city is more racially, ethnically, and socially diverse than ever and is full of “canopies,” which allows strangers to fearlessly interact with each other (Anderson, xv). The author provides a vivid description of the city as it would be seen on a walking tour, emphasizing the cosmopolitan canopies, as well as areas that could be classified as de facto segregation and usually experience more racial tension from visiting outsiders and other ethnic and social groups.…

What I do to establish and maintain a healthy environment is to prevent the spread of germs and promote healthy eating habits. Germs can be easily spread among the age group of children in my care, especially because they are in close contact with each other. One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing. On a daily basis I wash my hands before entering the classroom in the morning and ensure that all adults and children mother same. I always wash my hands before and after helping a child use the toilet, cleaning up bodily fluids, and handling food. I have the children wash their hands during similar times and ensure that they do it properly. I make sure they also wash their hands before and after playing at the water and sand table. Another way is to promote health is sanitizing all toys on a daily basis and…

From my investigation, I learn that most children from my classroom live in apartments that they don’t feel safe. Most of my students told me that they are not able to go outside and play because they hear gunshots or fights outside their apartments. As a future teacher, this is something important to know because the environment that they live in might affect their education and students might not feel safe in the school too. In order for students to know that they are safe in the classroom and in school the teacher has to make a class environment that students feel welcome and…
