Snowboarding Is Better Than Skiing
Snowboarding and skiing are highly popular winter sports to the people with the resources to it. If a person lives close enough to a resort, they will often find themselves going nearly every weekend and spending as much time on the mountain as they can. The sport becomes a passion to them; it becomes a chance for them to getaway. Snowboarding is a sport with unlimited opportunities and it is something that a person can participate in throughout your entire physically able life. Snowboarding is set apart from skiing because of the wide range of opportunities that it offers. With the resources to snowboard, anyone has the ability to be able to go out on the mountain sit down, strap in, and see everything without worries of any gear falling off after a fall and with the ease of sitting down and standing up throughout the entire mountain. With snowboarding being the newer sport of the two, it has the chance to continue to grow and I do not see the growth of snowboarding stopping with the tremendous growth that is has already shown. Snowboarding is going to bring more to come in the future than skiing as it still a relatively new sport, it has a long way to go, and will continue to grow. A snowboard is …show more content…
Skiers can constantly be viewed clumsily trying to walk up a set of stairs. Snowboarding boots; however, although they are required to be a little stiff to give the wearers ankles support, still are flexible enough to walk in comfortably. With snowboarding boots on, pointing your toes is still within the realm of possibility where as it is nowhere nearly as easy in a pair of ski boots. Snowboarding boots are something that provides the wearer more comfort than a pair of ski boots can come close to. With a soft lining in a snowboard boot, and occasionally custom forming foam, the boot forms to the wearers foot to give them the most comfortable

My first reason as to why snowboarding is a dying culture and skiing is far superior is that snowboarding is far more dangerous than skiing for many reasons. Firstly snowboarders have a much harder time stopping than skiers do. All a skier has to do to stop is a graceful hockey stop, or a snowplough for the less experienced. Conversely, a snowboarder has to practically fall down to stop and this is not only a danger to the rider as when they fall back they are in the prefect position to break their wrist but also to everyone else on the run. Imagine if you were skiing down a run, minding your own business, just as a snowboarder plonks down right in front of you and you topple! If that was me I would not be too impressed with the snowboarder. Snowboarding is definitely more dangerous as they cannot even stop without causing a hazard.…

Unfortunately, this time I fell over hard, and somehow got snow up my nose. I’m not even sure how that would be possible, but somehow it happened. It was freezing cold, and my face hurt for the next 5 minutes, but it wasn’t too bad. I found that after you ski for a while, you get bruises on your calves from pressing against the rim of the ski boot. Ski boots are not like normal boots. They are two pieces of heavy plastic joined together with one joint at the ankle and lined with padding. As you can probably imagine, this gives you about the same amount of flexibility as if you stuck your foot in concrete. I suppose they have to be like this to hold your foot really steady in the ski, but they are kind of…

This brings us to yet another inquisition: how could snowboarding as a high school sport meet these qualifications? If you have ever watched the “X-Games” or the Olympics, you would already know that snowboarding is undoubtedly a national sport that has many viewers and generates plenty of revenue. Is this not enough for the sport to branch off from professional and recreational…

It's all a matter of education, and there are now special signs on the slopes in Austria, bearing the slogan: "It's not cool to kill friends.” (Bell) Skiers often make fun of us snowboarders for our strange habit of sitting down, but what they don’t understand is the reasons why. One of the many reasons is snowboarding is a better workout than skiing is. “When a snowboarder points the nose of his board across the fall line instead of straight downhill, he is now positioned in such a manner that to keep from sliding down the hill. He has to be in some more-or-less squatting position which exerts a lot of pressure on the quadriceps if facing downhill (or the calves if facing uphill).” (Zemens) “It’s not because we actually need to, we just like the rest. If we snowboarders wanted to, we could easily strap in quickly and get on our way. The truth is we quite like the social chat while we eye up a jump or route.” (Duncombe) Although we do apologize for leaving the chairs in the lodge wet with our waterlogged butts. Another thing that the skiers like to laugh at is our absence of…

What is snowboarding to me? "I would not even call snowboarding a sport. It is a way of life. It is a chance to shut your brain off and live in the moment." Travis Rice could not have said it any better. Snowboarding has become a part of who I am and has had many influences on my life. The sport of snowboarding has taught me very valuable skill such as: persistence, hard work, courage and dedication. I was taught to be persistent when learning new tricks. From personal experience, when learning a new trick I experienced many failures and countless tries but snowboarding taught me to stick with it because the taste of victory and achievement is incomparable. The sport also taught me about the value of courage and being able to take risks. From watching other people accel, I learned that I need to really push myself if I want to be at the top of the charts. Almost every time that I ride I scare the living daylights out of myself. This is not a bad thing though because it teaches me to push my comfort zone and reap the rewards. Snowboarding also taught me dedication because if you love something enough and would like to be good at it then you need to be dedicated. All the time that I spend thinking about and actually riding my snowboard show my extreme dedication and it really does pay off. Snowboarding to me is a way that I live my…
