Narrative Essay
Have you ever wondered what it is like to begin playing a new sport? Starting to play soccer was a big challenge for me. One reason it was difficult was because I had not even kicked a ball since I played as a child. Secondly, I began as a freshman playing on a varsity team. Lastly, there was the struggle to find my position and work together with the team as a whole. Beginning to play soccer again after many years was hard. Previously, as a kid, I played AYSO. Even still, I did not know the basics of soccer. The positions, rules, and plays seemed a foreign language to me. For example, at my first day of practice I could barely kick a ball, let alone dribble. There is a lot of running in soccer that I was not yet physically

It had been a long and tough game. The sun was beating down on us and we were all tired when all of a sudden the game’s time limit ran out. We were all tense because no one knew the score. The ref said that the game was tied. We all exhaled. We hadn't even realized we were holding our breaths. That meant we all had to do PKs (Penalty kicks) until one team won.…

When I was ten years old I tried out for my local travel soccer team. I did not expect to make it, but by some stroke of luck I did. I started playing and it was not what I was expecting. In the past I averaged a hat trick every game, but travel soccer was a lot different. I started playing defense, but that might be an overstatement, because I did not get a whole lot of minutes. I knew that if I wanted to play more I was going to have to put in more work outside of practice. I started practicing everyday switching from running, to foot skills, to agility training. I probably spent more time complaining about it and there were a few time that my parents had to push me to practice, but I knew that I had to put in the work.…

It all started at ninth street with some friends of mine John and I started recruiting some people to come play football with us. I honestly didn’t know I had a pretty decent arm. I originally was going to start practicing to play wide receiver instead of quarterback. At the time Odell Beckham Jr. ( wide receiver for the New York Giants ) was extremely explosive and dynamic on offense. Seeing him blow up on offense made me want to try out for wide receiver. But somehow John convinced me to play quarterback.…

As a young boy of about nine or ten, it was a dream of mine to play on my school’s Varsity Soccer team. I spent many nights watching the current players contest with other schools for the title of WPIAL Champions. Being a young club soccer player, this was my ultimate goal. Now even though I had a strong passion for the game, my many years of club soccer were not easy. I was not a sub-par player, but I was also not the prodigy that some of my teammates were. I had to work much harder than most players to secure my starting spot on my team, but my efforts definitely payed off. For the first five or six years of club soccer, I held a spot as one of my team’s two starting center defenders. All of a sudden, while at a rainy tournament game in West Virginia, I went into a tackle wrong and injured my back. My entire soccer career went downhill from…

Soccer was going well until the day before my first scrimmage. I had a dentist appointment before I went to soccer and I was running a tad late. When I got there they were already working on defending drills and everything we normally did after stretches. Instead of doing my stretches I just jumped right in to what everyone else was doing. When it was my turn to defend I put pressure on the ball and when I went to plant my foot to change direction I heard six pops and an instant pain run up my leg. I fell to the ground and landed completely on it and all I could remember was how unbearable the pain was. I eventually became stable with my…

During my freshman year of high school, my soccer experience was permanently reshaped. Our team had lost its goalie. Our team needed to either recruit a new goalie, or find an existing team member to fill that position. Prospects did not look good, so I volunteered to take the goalie spot. Though I had played soccer for many years, this was my first year playing the goalkeeper position. I had no idea what I was getting myself into; I had acted on behalf of the team and our collective need. At first, I was very nervous about playing goalie. This nervousness quickly diminished when I realized that I had a natural talent for playing goalkeeper. I was shocked, relieved, and proud by my innate ability to play my new position. I am so happy that I took the risk, experience playing, because I have played that position ever since, and I truly love it. With my hard work, I am getting better each day, step by step.…

One of my challenges was in my Sophomore year when I didn't make the varsity team because I was not in good condition. The other challenge happen in my junior year when I got injured a week before the championship game and I had to recover before the game. When I was a sophomore I tried out for the varsity soccer team at my school but I did not make it, because I was not at that level. Some of the reason I did not make it were ,because I was overweight, slow, not strong enough and would put too much pressure on myself so I was not able to complete a pass or a shot. Those were the things I needed to work on so I could become a better soccer player. I was really upset…

The day has finally come; it’s the last day of cheer. After days of constant cheering, dancing and stunting, it was the day either for my dreams to be crushed or for them the come true. I couldn’t decide what to wear, what to expect, whether to wear a bow or not. My life is a hot mess at the moment. I am freaking out. I’m giving my self a pep talk trying to get my life together. Then all of a sudden I thought, “What am I talking about I am not confident in myself.” That is big problem because the whole point of being a cheerleader you need to confident and positive. “What did I get myself into?” “Why did I even tryout?” “None of the girls are going to accept me on the team.” Then I looked at the time. I had thirty minutes till I had to be there. I had nothing to wear, and I haven’t done my hair.…

The first step to learning to play soccer is that you must be in top physical shape. It is like basketball, most of the players are tall. In soccer the same principle applies, you are constantly running up and down the field so your physique will greatly affect your skills. You must begin physical training at least two weeks prior to starting foot work. One of the best places to begin training is at a tropical beach. Running and exercising in the sand is said to be tougher than on firm ground. To maintain the best physique possible players must also have a healthy diet. Also, you should go to the gym and work your legs out because that is what you will mainly be using in soccer.…
