Social Location In Sociology

In this brief essay I will be discussing two main ideas: Social location’s role to sociology and the concepts of sociology being relevant to my life. Social location is definitely, in my opinion, an important concept in sociology. But first, what is social location? Social location is basically a description of ourselves or someone else; from religion to gender, every aspect of ourselves or someone else can noted down as a social location. Chapter 1 in our textbook (The Sociology Project 2.0: Introducing the Sociological Imagination) starts off with a question saying “Who are we?” Right before the author starting writing all this sociological stuff, he simply asks us for our social location. This shows that social location plays a major role in sociology, we need to know ourselves and our surroundings to enhance our knowledge in a better way to under our society. Every single article I read are surprisingly all similar and become one body of explanations of concepts and roots of sociology and how each concepts of sociology are beneficial for each of us. I can relate to these articles because they are very relevant to my life, I have my own social location, difference, setting, etc. I am more than glad to be an undergraduate and having a sociology class for this semester, I will be expecting a lot of things that I really never paid attention too. Having a degree pathway in Music (Creative Production) and now taking a sociology class, this will expand my knowledge and I’ll get to know the mind of this society around, or wherever I go. Making music just about myself is boring at times, I think using the tools of sociology I could only not make music but “society music”, as I define as a genre that everyone can relate
