In November 2009, the Care Council produced ‘Social Work Career Pathway, A Discussion Paper’. This paper sets out a plan for developing a national career pathway for social workers in Wales, linked to a framework for post qualifying education and training. The proposed career pathway is intended to strengthen the retention of experienced social workers in frontline roles. It is also designed to ensure that social workers have the necessary knowledge and skills, and access to learning and support, to help them deliver high-quality services at all stages of their careers. The career pathway caters for newly-qualified social workers, as well as experienced practitioners, and the development of new roles such as the Consultant Social Worker. The career pathway discussion paper was the subject of a report to Care Council in January 2010. The paper was circulated widely to and discussed by stakeholders including with the National Strategic Advisory Partnership for Social Work Training, the Welsh Assembly Government, the Association of Directors of Social Services. Overall, there is support for the career pathway model and the opportunity it presents for raising the status of the social work profession and standards of practice. The proposed career pathway and associated Continuing Professional Education and Learning (CPEL) framework has been presented to the Social Work and Social Care Workforce Task Group established by the Deputy Minister for Social Services. The Task Group has agreed that the career pathway and CPEL framework should be recommended to the Deputy Minister when the Task Group reports in November 2010. - See more at: http://www.ccwales.org.uk/career-pathway-for-social-workers/#sthash.bSqsF8to.dpuf…

Whilst a deep theoretical analysis of race, gender, class, sexuality and ability is needed to understand the roots and origins of societal issues today, equally important is taking that theory out of the classroom and into action based praxis. As an undergraduate student at Columbia in the fall of 2013, I co-founded the campaign for Columbia to divest from fossil fuels and engaged with youth across the country to build a movement for climate justice. Having no experience in community organizing or campaigns prior to college, I had a steep learning curve when I organized a summer conference with trainings for hundreds of students focusing on how to build an anti-oppressive and inclusive climate justice movement. I have kept the core values of…

My first and highest interest is homelessness and housing. I find myself passionate about wanting to give homeless or underprivileged individuals and/or families a fresh start. Nothing beats connecting individuals to the right resources, watching them take control back over their lives, and striving to reach their fullest potential. A newer area of interest I have is international social work. I keep finding myself drawn to global poverty and the affects poverty has on the individuals and/or families such as little to no schooling, poor health, high disease rates, starvation, and war. Ultimately, I am interested in helping restore dignity within these individuals and communities by advocacy and through breaking down development barriers.…

My dream career is to be a clinical social worker because the job enables me to help individuals who are socially disadvantaged and create an environment where they can be reformed and adapt to society. ”Clinical social workers help families deal with issues related to mental and substance abuse through a rehabilitation program” (Siegel & Worrall,2012, page 626). What inspired me to be a clinical social worker was all the young hard core criminals that are incarcerated .Some of them are intelligent and naturally creative. In my time as an officer, I’ve seen these dangerous criminals create beautiful poetry, paintings, and music. As a clinical social worker, I will be able to do psychological evaluations, counseling and create rehabilitation programs that will meet my client’s needs.…

During the beginning phase, you introduce and identify yourself and seek introductions from prospective clients and involved others. Following the exchange of introductions, you describe a tentative initial purpose for the meeting, possibly identify one of more professional roles that you might undertake, orient participants to the process, and identify relevant policy and ethical factors that might apply. Throughout this beginning process, you regularly seek feedback concerning others’ understanding of and reactions to your introductory comments. By using the beginning skills, you help to clarify the nature and boundaries or ground rules of the helping process, lessen the initial ambivalence people often experience, and establish a tentative direction for work. Introducing Yourself At the beginning of any first interview, you should identify yourself by name and profession and by agency or departmental affiliation. You might also want to provide formal identification, such as a business card. Seeking Introductions Encourage each new client to say her or his name, and then try to pronounce it correctly. In a group, you might ask group members to introduce themselves and share a few of the thoughts that occurred to them as they anticipated coming to this first meeting. Describing Initial Purpose Clearly but succinctly discuss your view of the purpose of the meeting. Orienting Clients Describe how clients can join you as active, collaborative participants in the helping process. Discussing Policy and Ethical Factors Discuss potentially relevant legal, policy and ethical factors. This constitutes part of the informed consent process and is an essential element of professional service to clients. Seeking Feedback Encourage clients to comment about the proposed purpose, your role, their role, policy or ethical factors, or any other aspects of your introductory remarks.…
