According to a researcher carried in 2012 by the LULAC Organization in that year close to 10,000 persons ages 13-17 identified themselves as LGBT. LGBT Hispanic population is often victim of social oppression in terms of equal rights, work place discrimination, legal rights, access to quality health resources, bullying and lack of support from family and community.
For most LGBT Hispanics coming out to their family and community is frightening because it may imply losing family support and community inclusion. Religion plays another important role for this specific population. As well as access to quality education for LGBT individuals and their family.
To address these issues several organizations, such as The National LGBT Center, were created to offer access to education and resources for this population, also several policies have been implemented to support equal treatment and inclusion of LGBT people into society.
