Social Work, Micro Practice And Macro Practice
The main goal of Social Work practice is the psychosocial improvement of the individuals within a system and the system where they operate. Social Work has three different concentrations, Micro practice, Mezzo practice and Macro practice. Micro practice focuses in individual and small groups such as couples, families and groups. This practice is more direct or face to face intervention. Mezzo practice focuses in medium communities, it can be face to face or indirect practice. And Macro practice focuses in larger systems such as organizations, institutions, regions and countries. Macro practice is “designed to bring about change in organizational, community, and/or policy arenas” ( Cite) . “José” is a 22 years old gay Hispanic male, who recently …show more content…
One of the ways that this can be done in direct practice is by helping clients analyze the different aspects of the situation they are going thru, reassure self-esteem as well as aid them to gain a better understanding of their role in function to people around them and create a plan to accomplish these goals. Engagement stage: To build rapport with Jose is necessary make him feel comfortable talking about his homosexuality. This can be done by elicit open communication. It is necessary not to force Jose to talk about his homosexuality. Ask open ended questions could be a good strategy to encourage information on the topic. Paraphrasing to aid Jose have a clearer understanding of his emotions. Assessment: The assessment interview will be based on the Psychoanalytic Perspective. This perspective “is concerned with how internal processes such as needs, drives and emotions motivate human behavior.” (Hutchinson, 2011) Using this perspective will help Jose to understand his feeling and emotions. According to a researcher carried in 2012 by the LULAC Organization in that year close to 10,000 persons ages 13-17 identified themselves as LGBT. LGBT Hispanic population is often victim of social oppression in terms of equal rights, work place discrimination, legal rights, access to quality health resources, bullying and lack of support from family and community.
For most LGBT Hispanics coming out to their family and community is frightening because it may imply losing family support and community inclusion. Religion plays another important role for this specific population. As well as access to quality education for LGBT individuals and their family.
To address these issues several organizations, such as The National LGBT Center, were created to offer access to education and resources for this population, also several policies have been implemented to support equal treatment and inclusion of LGBT people into society. Moreover, more needs to be done to better the quality of life of the LGBT
