The main goal of Social Work practice is the psychosocial improvement of the individuals within a system and the system where they operate. Social Work has three different concentrations, Micro practice, Mezzo practice and Macro practice. Micro practice focuses in individual and small groups such as couples, families and groups. This practice is more direct or face to face intervention. Mezzo practice focuses in medium communities, it can be face to face or indirect practice. And Macro practice focuses in larger systems such as organizations, institutions, regions and countries. According to a researcher carried in 2012 by the LULAC Organization in that year close to 10,000 persons ages 13-17 identified themselves as LGBT. LGBT Hispanic population is often victim of social oppression in terms of equal rights, work place discrimination, legal rights, access to quality health resources, bullying and lack of support from family and community.
For most LGBT Hispanics coming out to their family and community is frightening because it may imply losing family support and community inclusion. Religion plays another important role for this specific population. As well as access to quality education for LGBT individuals and their family.
To address these issues several organizations, such as The National LGBT Center, were created to offer access to education and resources for this population, also several policies have been implemented to support equal treatment and inclusion of LGBT people into society.
