In my role, it is important that I can communicate in the correct way to ensure that the needs of the service user are understood and are dealt with correctly. Effective written and verbal communication and being able to use a variety of interpersonal techniques helps to promote strong working relationships and will promote good quality care for the service user. For example when I meet a service user on the initial visit we discuss their needs and wishes to ensure they receive the appropriate care and support package that is individually tailored to meet there needs. I hold regular review meetings with the service user, the key worker, family members and other professionals to establish any changing needs. I contact the service user regularly by telephone to ensure that everything is working well with the service. I also hold regular staff meetings and one to one meetings to ensure effective open communication between the office and the staff on duty. This enables staff to raise any concerns that they may have and for actions to be implemented to reduce or eliminate the concern. I produce reports, update…

The challenges of being a social worker include how “social work involves helping others and getting involved with people in such a close way can sometimes put you in harm. The risk is real and social workers need to be cautious” (“5 Pros”). No matter what career a person chooses, there will always be risks. Social work comes with big risks. Most people go to or are assigned to a social worker because they have a problem in their lives that they need help solving. That can sometimes mean they did something dangerous and you may be in harm's way. Another negative thing about being a social worker is that it “might be labeled by some to be rewarding, but it can also be emotionally draining” (“5 Pros”). A social worker spends most of their day listening to the problems in the lives of their clients, and giving advice to their clients. That can be very emotionally draining because a certain amount of patience and listening skills are required to get through the day. Some days a social worker may have a more difficult client, and they put more effort and time into that one client which can be very…

People who play an important role in service users lives are families and significant others. These are more often than not the people who know the service user best and can be an invaluable source of information and support. Family members and significant others are a very good source of information which may help support workers to understand the service user’s needs, preferences, history choice and the things they like or dislike. Support workers might be best positioned in order to provide the help service users need to achieve the best possible outcomes if they develop and maintain a good relationship with the service users families and their significant others and they all work together in order to achieve the same outcome. The benefits of support workers, significant others and families working together are enormous and invaluable. The service user’s psychological and social well-being is improved by the help of support by family and carers. There is a greater willingness to share, tackle any misunderstanding and resolve any issues as quickly as possible. Families and significant others can be crucial to what service users experience or continue to experience and achieve. Support workers should work with the families and significant others of service users in order to help shape the care and support that they receive. Some of this could be where families and significant others continue to engage and remain involved in all parts in the delivery of the service users care and support. Some family members may choose to continue supporting the service user with their finances, shopping, appointments, taking service users out regularly or just giving general support whilst at the same time helping to ensure that the service user’s life is full and enjoyable with the support of staff and family members.…
