A sociological perspective The article I read was on how culture is involved in the social working sector in Jamaica. As the article says, it is known that most writers seem to agree that the word “culture” is a sort of relationship between cultural patterns of the groups of people and their survival strategies. Throughout the passage, the plural society theory came about. A plural society is one that is composed of various groups, each with its own subculture, and only a few culture symbols are shared by all. It is said by M.G Smith that “caribbean societies are plural societies, and that each is a particular unit simply because each has a single government.” He then said that “Culture plurality relates to schools, marriage, church, relegion, and language.” On the other hand Oscar Lewis stated that “the relationsip between the mainstream society and the lower classes has always been a social and economic
They are the ones that work with children, with desabled persons, and with addicts. Social workers are the ones that help people with challenges throughout their lives. I think that cultural considearation has both a positive and negative impacts on social workers. From reading the article I understood that the positively if they are opened minded they would have no dificulty in learning a new language or religion. While, it can be negative to social workers because they may not feel confortable learning about other cultures.
There are two opinions being argued here and I don’t think that there is a wrong or right answer. I personally think that it depends on the angle that you view things. For example if you don’t like someone, maybe because you’ve heard bad things about that person; it does’nt matter how good the deeds of the person may be, you have a bad perspective of that person and that’s the way you view that person.
