Farley, wrote “In 2011, there were 5,695 deaths in New York City in which diabetes was either the main cause or a contributing cause – twice the number of deaths as from HIV, overdose, and homicide combined.“ People who consume sugary food or drinks are twice as likely to develop obesity and diabetes. Despite this evidence many argue that it is not in the government's jurisdiction to decide how much soda the public drinks. This however is not a true statement because the increase of soda and sugary beverages leads to an increase in health problems, such as obesity, heart problems,and diabetes.
