Software Entrepreneurship

A software is a program that can be run on a computer system. Over the past few decades, software has become less of an obscurity and more of an absolute necessity. Modern societies function heavily under the use of computing and software systems. Organizations such as Schools, financial institutions, small business, large corporations are heavily ran on software systems. Software is not only designed for as business solutions, there is also software designed for use of communication, games and other forms of entertainment.

With the rise of software solutions and its relevance in today’s societies, Software entrepreneurs have become richer, more powerful, and influencial Some big name influential software entrepreneurs today are Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, John McAfee. These people have built successful business empires from different aspects of the software industry.

Bill Gates is responsible for building the largest software company in the world, Microsoft Corporation. He found this company with his childhood friend Paul Allen. Together they created and sold computer operating systems. An operating system is a program that acts as an intermediary between the user and the computer hardware. The operating system allows applications to be hosted on it to solve user problems and make the computer easier to use. Bill and Paul founded Microsoft Corporation in 1975, by 1990 the company held seventy-five percent of the desktop market and was the first software company to sell more than a billion dollars worth of products in a single year. Today they are still the largest software company.
