Somaly Mam Research Paper

Born in Cambodia, a city in Cambodge, Somaly Mam is now defending illegal trafficking and sexual slavery in majority in Southeast Asia. In 2006, Somaly was named a CNN Hero and a Glamour Woman of the Year. She received the World Children's Prize for the Rights of the Child and the Roland Berger Award for Human Dignity in 2008. Finally, in 2009, she was named to Time magazine's list of the one hundred most influential people in the world.

When she was young, her parents left her with her grandmother who also left Somaly alone when she was approximatively five years old. At the same moment, it was the murderous regime of Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge (1975-1979). She didn't have the choice, she was living alone in the forest. She was eating things she
was founding like mushrooms, plants, fishes or nuts. She was completely alone, no brother or sister, no parents and no family. One day, a old man bring her at his home and told her he was her grandfather. A couple of day after, she definitely became her slave. She was doing meals, cleaning, courses and when she was doing something wrong, he beat her. She was only nine years old. In those years, she went to school but only for two years. Before she became married at 12 years old and she became, by obligation, a prostitue.
