What are performance appraisals? Simply put, they are the evaluation of goals that are pre-determined and set by both the employee and organization (Harvard Business Press, 2009). They are used to measure an employee’s performance and team performance.…
By the time the Central Europe Campaign had begun, Allies victory in Europe was destined to happen. Hitler had gambled his ability to defend Germany on the Battle of the Bulge and lost. Although Western Allies still had to quarrel for victory, he no longer possessed the strength to halt Allied armies. The crossing of the Rhine, the encirclement and diminution of the…

According to our policies and procedures at my organization, the process for performance evaluation for employees, excluding faculty and MDs, is that each employee will have a 90 day evaluation from the date of hire and then annual evaluations. Annual evaluations must be completed within 30 days of an employee’s review date. The completed performance evaluation must be reviewed and approved by the next highest official to the rating supervisor. Employees must be allowed 30 days to make a formal request for reconsideration for their performance evaluation. The employee must sign the form stating that they have discussed the rating with the supervisor. They must also receive a copy whether they agree or disagree. Although this is the policy, it is not always followed. Evaluations…
A performance appraisal is a review and discussion of an employee 's performance of assigned duties and responsibilities. The appraisal is based on results obtained by the employee in his/her job, not on the employee 's personality characteristics. The appraisal measures skills and accomplishments with reasonable accuracy and uniformity. It provides a way to help identify areas for performance enhancement and to help promote professional growth. It should not, however, be considered the supervisor 's only communication tool. Open lines of communication throughout the year help to make effective working relationships.…
Again Performance Appraisals are a great tool when used correctly. Managers must take them seriously and evaluations’ should be accurate. “Before the PA program is up and running, a performance appraisal form should be designed with input from managers. It should be able to sufficiently measure performance, be simple enough for all employees to complete, and not take more than an hour to finish. In implementing the PA program, top management should give the plan its blessing; employees should understand how it works, and the staff at large should be encouraged to view the program as a valuable human resources tool (The Importance of Having a Performance Appraisal Program, Part I,”…

Performance evaluation plans are designed to meet many organizational and individual needs. Annual reports list, summarize and provide a record of yearly business activities. Performance evaluations provide systematic judgments to support salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions and terminations. Evaluations are meant to access and communicate job performance status to a subordinate employee and suggest any needed changes in behavior, attitude, skills or job knowledge. They are also used as a basis for a supervisor to coach and counsel the individual as well as to identify and deal with performance deficiencies. Annual evaluations helps the employer and employee build on the strengths of the employee and identify those areas the employee needs improvement to be more effective and efficient in his/her job.…
A performance appraisal is basically the same things as a performance of one’s work, a review, an evaluation, development discussion or way of measuring an employee’s work. Performance appraisals are conducted in order to measure career development and many companies have them regularly. Another way at looking at performance appraisals is as a way of measuring productivity. They are conducted to see organizational citizenship behavior, accomplishments, potential for future improvement, strengths and weaknesses, etc. (Manasa & Reddy, 2009). Performance appraisal data are collected in the three following ways: objective production, personnel, and judgmental evaluation. After conducting performance appraisal with employee/employees, the feedback is then given to them and factors such as career advancement, compensation, or demotion can be mentioned. This is very important in order to determine how companies are doing themselves, and whether they will continue to grow successfully or possibly fail.…
They help supervisors evaluate and measure employee performance, provide continual feedback, and recognize and reinforce positive performance. Management should performe annual performance of evaluations to their employees. It should be an on going process. In order for any performance of evaluation system to work, supervisors must regularly evaluate employee performance and not put off reviewing employees until their review dates. They must also engage in ongoing communication with their subordinates regarding performance issues. Properly utilizing performance of evaluations measure employee and supervisor performance. Many managers view performance of evaluations as a record of employee performance only. However, performance of evaluations also reflect how well supervisors communicate and otherwise relate to their…
