Song Analysis: 16 Shots
Throughout many of my favourite songs the topic of relationships is reoccurring. In one of my favourite songs by Vic Mensa titled “16 Shots” the topic of relationships is occurs a lot. In this song the artist explains the day to day conflicts between African-American citizens and racist police officers. He also talks about the level of power that the police have and how often that they abuse their power. In the song the artist talks about the conflict between police officers and African Americans. Some police officers have a perception of African-Americans that can’t be changed, they think that they are all ‘thugs’. The line “Gang gang! Gang gang! Murder murder! Murder they mind state” is representing the generalized impression of black males …show more content…
Since this song is about a woman breaking the heart of a man, society wouldn't pity the male, near as much as they would if man had have broken up with the woman. The truth of the matter is that, even though women are hurt more in the earlier stages of a breakup, men never fully recover form the breakup, they just move on. The message in this song is that the man had his heartbroken by a woman who never truly cared for him. In the line “I guess I was your gateway love, I didn't get you high enough” Thomas Rhett is comparing the relationship to drugs and the high you get from the different types of drugs. Basically, he is comparing himself to the high you get from a drug like marijuana which is considered a gateway drug, and her new man to a more powerful drug like cocaine, many people believe marijuana is gateway drug to the more powerful drugs. The lyrics in the song make you feel bad for the male in the situation because it is easy to relate to the situation as it has probably happened to almost everybody. Thomas Rhett is using his platform to tell his story and its nice to see that somebody so famous has experienced something that you think only regular citizens experience. This is an example of social network power, since the artist is using his position in society to talk about his personal issues, it makes it feel like you know the artist …show more content…
It is a lot easier to concentrate and sit down and get work done when I am listening to music because music makes you forget about how much you don't want to do the task at hand. I listen to it when I get up in the morning because it helps me become more alert while I prepare for the day. While in the car I listen to music I like to sing a long to some of my favourite songs because it helps the time pass while making the everyday commute. While working out, I like to listen to music because it helps me stay motivated and makes me push harder. Lastly, I listen to music when I'm getting ready to go out to a party because it makes me get pumped up to go out for the night. There are some of my friends that like the same types of music as me, and thats part of the reason why we are such good friends, because my everyday life depends on music and so do theirs. I also have some friends who don't listen to music at all, I tend not to hangout with those friends when I'm going out or studying because those are times when I absolutely have to listen to music. Although, none of my friends like listening to music when playing video games because they find it too distracting, so then I have to live without music. I don't often listen to the same types of music whether I am with friends or relaxing by myself. The types of music that I would listen to with

It has been twenty-eight years since the music group Niggaz Wit Attitudes, abbreviated as N.W.A, released their “Straight Outta Compton” music video in 1988. Twenty-eight years after the song’s release, racism and police brutality are still very much at the heart of Hip-Hop and black culture in contemporary America. During the music video, members of N.W.A portray images of the violent setting of Compton, California, a city that has been synonymous with poverty, drugs, rap music, sex, and gang violence for years. “Straight Outta Compton,” written in its crude and coarse manner, draws on the struggle of growing up in such a community, where the majority of youth end up being either a victim or perpetrator of gang violence by the time they reach adulthood.…

In a video called “I Am Sean Bell”, directed by Stacey Muhammad, one of the men interviewed says “It’s unfortunate that it has to happen over and over again for people to actually feel something about it”. This video features young men featured in this documentary talk about how they feel about the incidents of the police shooting young men and what should be done to change the prejudice and stereotypes that surround young African American teens. The teens in the video feel like the police continually get away with taking the lives of young black men and there is no justice. This is a serious problem because these young men are being traumatized by the brutality of police officers…

There are many uses of imagery throughout the song, mostly pertaining to life growing up in the ghetto; "We gotta start makin' changes, learn to see me as a brother instead of 2 distant strangers." It is also apparent that Tupac feels animosity towards the police; "Cops give a damn about a negro, pull the trigger kill a nigga he's a hero. Give the crack to the kids, who the hell cares, one less hungry mouth on the welfare." This is more than likely the due to negative experiences with law enforcement.…

I know for a fact that everyone loves music you can’t go wrong with a couple tunes playing back and forth here and there. I have a lot favorite song, artist, videos and etc. Chief Keef is one of my favorite rappers because i like the way he rap duh, if that’s my favorite, but yeah he is a very good rapper even though sometimes you can’t hear what he saying but I bet you will still like him. Music is something my family enjoys as well, I like the music my family play, but when my granny gets the choices Umm NO she like that bogus old people music and I don’t like that type of music because it’s not my type of selection of music. Her music makes you want to leave the house, half the time they sound like they crying and depressed and I don’t like it. Some of favorite rappers are Chief Keef, Beyoncé, Lil Durk, Chris Brown, Lucci, Fetty Wap And Skooly. My life without music or any of them rappers I just named it would be totally empty. I listen to music on a daily basis and anytime of the day. Music takes away my stress sometimes and it keeps me amped and alive. When I’m on my way to school, I like listening to music to get prepared for my day and ignoring the kids on the bus. When I was younger, I probably didn’t know what music was but now I do and I love it. I like listening to feeling and songs that help you think about life and the memories. My favorite feeling song is “Cry Me A River” By Skooly, he is a…

“What are Rappers Really Saying about the Police?” talks a lot about how the criminal justice system is unfair and biased based on who they are. The supportive details the authors gives would be when they give two examples of songs by Tupac and Jay-Z, then they give their opinion of what the songs meant. The conclusion is that they found the messages that were given was not that the rappers disliked the justice, however, they disliked the way it was being implemented.…

In the song, member Easy E is quoted in saying, “And as we roll on I see the patrol on crip so we get ghost because they beat me and ren in de black ce”. That lyric directly references the two members being harassed and beaten by the LAPD. Back then police violence was such an everyday occurrence that black men purposely avoided law enforcement. Most cases of police brutality likely go unknown. In today’s hip hop music, rap artist such as Chief Keef have also been known for his expressive lyrics detailing his distaste for law enforcement. Taking a more aggressive tone, he is quoted in saying in song, Aimed At You, “So get your top dropped, like a drop top. If you calling the police you gone get a cop dropped cause he pelle pelle like a fox, ain’t talking to the cops”. This level of total disregard of authority and respect for our men and women of law enforcement could be the reason why our black men are at higher risk to being met with violence during encounters with the…

This song enhances human understanding by telling what is really happening in the world; the status quo of our society. Some of us tolerate the injustice and violence that we see on TV, social media, and the like, but this song reminds us that we are here to spread love, not violence, hatred, and pain. This song just helps us realize that what most of us tolerate is wrong by showing how these issues greatly affects the youth, races, and the rest of the world.…

The lyrics aren’t just narrating the lives of Lisa, Nicole and Erica; it is narrating what millions of children are going through. This song portrays real life situations and I can guarantee you that every word in verse 1, 2 and 3 are completely true from the part where Lisa gets sexually abused to where Nicole is harassed by her step father. The song demonstrates the various types of abuse and pain each girl is going through, from the lines…

Despite undercurrents of menace, the vast majority of hit rap songs have always concerned the same topics as hit rock or pop songs: dancing, getting wasted and getting laid.” And yet, the violence described in gangsta rap was seen by law enforcement as more dangerous, more in need of policing, not entirely unlike black urban communities in the 1980s themselves. However, if you were to read the lyric sheets to the top ten rock songs vs the top ten rap songs of the 90’s, it would be very difficult to argue that the rap lyrics weren’t substantially more violent and many times, outright instigating violence. Guns and Roses Sweet Child O Mine has yet to be cited as an influence in someone’s murder or…

Music is a big part of people’s lives and it can be accessed so easily. People can hear music anywhere they go on their phones. Many people like to listen to music whenever they are doing other tasks. Others feel that the music distracts them from the work they are performing. In my opinion, I do not like listening to music when I am working on certain tasks that require thinking or concentration because do not concentration. I love listening to music in my free time. If there is music on while I am doing a task, then I am more likely to be paying attention to the music than concentrating on the task. When I listen to music, I like to pay attention to the lyrics even though I already know them word by word. Don’t you want to find out whether…

I listen to music every day of my life. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep. My current mood determines what type of music I listen to. For example, in the morning, I like to start my day off with something slow and calm. This usually jazz music with its soft and mellow tones. Then later in the day, I prefer to listen to rap music. It really helps me get excited. This helps me when I am in the gym, especially the sound of the loud bass and tones. I tend to calm down after a long day of activities. I sooth my mood with slow, mellow, and calm music. This really helps my body and mind relax after a long day of work. In conclusion, Jazz, Rap, and R&B are very powerful different types of music, each having its own different style and background.…
