Song Analysis Of George Strait's Song, I Believe
George Strait co-wrote “I Believe” with his son and songwriter Dean Dillon during the aftermath of the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012. On December 14th, 2012, shooter Adam Lanza walked into the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and fatally shot 20 children and six adult staff before taking his own life. Strait was among those asking why, so he turned to songwriting to help him sort out his grief and anger. “Like everybody, I was watching it on TV. I’m just shaking my head. It was so sad and…you know I was thinking, ‘I know what these parents are going through.’ It’s just the worst thing that can happen to you in your life, to lose a child. There’s just nothing worse than that” (Strait). With those thoughts …show more content…
He mentions someone watching him from heaven; another reason to believe this song is about his daughter. Although Strait is traditionally quiet about his beliefs, one can get a good sense of who he is through his song choice” (Killebrew). But he has had a rough journey. George was raised in a Christian home and fell away in his college years. It was not until his daughter died in 1986 that George realized his need of a savior. This change was reflected later in his music when he started writing songs. And even though George Strait has had a rough journey, I am excited that he will be in heaven with his daughter again one day. As quoted in a book, “Some say that the sparkle went out of George Strait’s eyes when Jenifer was killed. And, it’s probably true. Since he didn’t want to do much of anything but grieve for her, there was a spiritual change in George that is reflected in his life today and the music he chooses to sing. His core belief in God would sustain him through it all. He was raised to believe in God by a man, his father, who did. When something that tragic happens you immediately turn to God for help. Your perfect world of fame and fortune is set aside for a reason to it all. In George Strait it is said that he decided to live for what he had not what he had lost” (Teutesch). Another one of my favorite songs by him is “I Saw God Today.” Wikipedia says, “The song is a mid-tempo ballad in which the lead character is walking down the sidewalk after his wife has just had a baby, meanwhile noticing such things as a flower growing out of a crack in the sidewalk, a couple who are expecting a baby and the colors of a sunset. Finally, the song ends with the central character in the nursery of a hospital, looking at his own newborn baby girl. He cites each thing that he sees along the way

The song “Thinkin ‘Bout You” by Frank Ocean pertains deeply to how he feels about Jane Gallagher. For an example, Holden persistently calls Jane his friend, but never tells the reader how he really feels about her. He says, “...We'd get into a goddam movie or something, and right away we'd start holding hands, and we wouldn't quit till the movie was over. And without changing the position or making a big deal out of it. You never even worried, with Jane, whether your hand was sweaty or not. All you knew was, you were happy. You really were.” Salinger 80). Holden’s feelings for Jane shine through from his personality in his little confession in his mind. Holden does not particularly enjoy the thought of sex, he cares for companionship. In addition,…

Twenty One Pilots is an alternative/indie band made up of two members, Joseph and Josh Dunn. They are known to occasionally rap and include specific tempos and beats that correspond with each song’s thought provoking lyrics. In the song “Oh. Ms. Believer” by Twenty One Pilots they use the analogy of snow to describe a young girl going through depression. The band accurately describes the feeling of being trapped inside one's mind as they go through the hardships of this mental illness. Although at first this song may be interpreted as another cliché alternative hit, the meanings hidden beneath the lyrics are sure to tug at the listener's heart strings as he/she looks through the eyes of someone who struggles with a loved one who is depressed.…

Saunders statement on the impact of Wilco song reflects his own values from his fiction by allowing him to relate his fictional stories to what people go through everyday. For Saunders, the song brings out the better in him, he feel like every type of situation has a solution. Even in the most conflicted scenario people are able or have the option to put aside their differences and workout their differences. Saunders writing style also includes writing things indirectly by giving out clues of what might be going on in a characters mind or even a scenario in the story, but he doesn’t tell his readers the problem directly. He allows his readers to process the information, take guesses and allows them to figure out things on their own as the…

The song starts out with a strang questioning of reality: “Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality, Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see”. They first two lines are rhetorical questions. They help establish the state of mind needed in order to continue with the song. The third line is a metaphor. It means everything is crashing down on him, and he cannot escape it. It seems to conclude that he is caught between a dream and awakening. The next couple set of lines are being used as transitions into the main part of stanza one, “I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy, Because I’m easy come, easy go, Little high, little low, Any way the wind blows, Doesn’t really matter to me, to me”. In the third and fourth line repetition is used in order to keep the lyrics flowing. The boy thinks his life doesn’t matter to anyone, his life is meaningless and the Earth does not care what happens to him. He does not care what happens next, he just wants it over; “any way the wind blows” him, he will go and it “doesn’t really matter” to him anymore. The next three lines show intent to kill by the boy, “Mama, just killed a man, Put a gun against his head, Pulled my trigger, now he’s dead”. The boy has finally come to terms of what he has…

Prominent protest songs of the 21st century are often found in genera’s containing boldly outspoken and poetically powerful lyrics such as contemporary rap and hip hop. However, a female country duo who debuted their first album in 2015 is stirring the gender inequality pot by crafting their music with brutal honesty. Maddie and Tae, two twenty-one year olds from Nashville, Tennessee, have dampened the burning fire in modern country music, referred to as “Bro Country.” These two ladies have taken a stance with their hit track, “Girl in a Country Song,” rebelling against the norms of society and shedding light on gender inequality through the power of protest music.…

Lieder ohne Worte (Song without Words) is written by the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. It is a collection of forty-eight short lyrical piano pieces of markedly song-like character that he wrote at various periods of his life between 1809 and 1847. They are well suited to the study of musical form because of their artistic value. Op. 19b, No. 1 Andante con moto in E major was written in 1830 and is the first in the collection.
