Song Analysis Of Jevin By Macklemore
In 2016, Macklemore released "Kevin," which features Leon Bridges. "Kevin” explains how Macklemore’s brother lost his life to drugs at 21. The song shines a light on legal drug use problems that are sweeping across the nation. Throughout the song they elaborate on how the lives of many individuals were cut short by drugs that were prescribed by a doctor. Songs like "Kevin" and "Drug Dealer" disclose Macklemore's experiences while overcoming an addiction to prescription drugs. He then goes into reform and casts aspersions on major pharmaceutical companies and our judicial system. In "Kevin," Macklemore and Bridges use mournful vocals, lyrical political rhetoric in his songs to enact an emotional effect on the listener.
In the song Macklemore raps about how his brother "played Russian Roulette" with his life and lost. His lyrics pronounce social injustices and political banter to emphasize that today's pharmaceutical market needs a major reform. He places the blame on "pharmacy companies and country that spends trillions fighting war they supplying themselves." In addition, he bashes "Politicians and business and jail public defenders and judges who fail". He uses lyrics like “pallbearer” “death” “coffins” and phrases like “chug a bottle and crack a seal" “death a line or two away” to establish a negative word connotation.

He jabs at "these billionaires" and how they "stay caked up" meaning they create the drugs and make profit." Paying out Congress" which allows the listener to make an inference that the big pharmaceutical companies are in cahoots and the influencing legislation. Rappers have a tendency to lose vocals however in this song Macklemore becomes enraged and it presents in his voice allowing the listener to hang onto his words emotionally and connect to his

In the first part of the song he’s just singing that they say stay in your lane boy, and they think this thing is a highway. These lyrics mean that the music industry is telling him that he needs to stay in his lane and do what they say, but that this is a fast paced world and he can do whatever he wants. In the second part of the song they say “We’d have a tempo change every other time change cause our minds change on what we think is good.” This part of the song is talking about how if he was able to write and make the music exactly like he wants it that he would change it up and do it the way he likes because the music industry and their thoughts on what they think is good usually changes all the time. Whats in one day is out the next.…

This and the use of incorrect grammer, so common to rebellious teenagers, helps portray the message of the song, which is that today’s youth are prisoners of the older generations society, which alienate the younger generation and instead of looking for support and comfort, they thrive to rebel against these rules and law enforcement bodies, with the institution of society having no effect on the younger generation as they don’t comply and don’t want to reform. This creates the younger generations culture, arguing they are their own society.…

The song tries to show the Obsession that American had of Michael Jordan and the Nike/Jordans Logo. He is considered the greatest players of all time, he was one of the greatest athletes of his generation and was considered instrumental in popularizing ( Americanizing the world) the NBA around the world in the 1980s and 1990s. The title of the song "Wings", is trying to represent "Air Jordan" (MJ nickname) and how he was known to be flying through his Leaping Ability. The song describes how youth in America wanted to be like Michael Jordan, and the only means of "be like Mike" were through Jordan Shoes. Nike used this obsession of being as good as him , Hypnotising youth to Buy Jordans, even through their Logo "just do it" , "My Movement told me be a consumer and i consumed it, They Told me to just do it, i Listened to what that swoosh said.....it consumes my thoughts". Macklemore displays this through the repetition of I, and how the shoes would change him to…

    Tupac Rhetoric

Tupac starts the song with a very clear statement “I’m tired of bein’ poor and, even worse, I’m black” that announces what the song’s is going to talk about. In a decade where police brutality in Afro-American neighbourhood was a real debate, Tupac claims “Cops give a damn about a negro, Pull the trigger, kill a nigga, he’s a hero”. Problems are never far from you in these communities even for the younger “Give the crack to the kids, who the hell care? One less hungry mouth on the welfare!”. In this song, Tupac seems to put the fault on the system that doesn’t help them in any way. These inequalities are necessary to keep the American system on track. As an example, the singer says “First ship’em dope and let’em deal to brothers. Give ‘em guns, take a step back, watch them kill each other”. In the second verse, Tupac puts more accent on racism “I see no changes, all I see is racist faces. Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races”. Overall, lyrics undoubtedly shows the presence of an ethical issue and the author protest by saying that things need to change all along the song “We gotta start makin’ changes, learn to see me as a brother instead of two distant strangers”.…

This is a victory track to Peter. The lyrics deconstruct the idea of the typical gangster or hustler and redefines it. The song then applies these negative stereotypes of a gangster to those in power of America. It is quite literally a satire that illustrates how those in power of this capitalist work force are the real destructive gangsters. It coalesces with the montage perfectly in that it establishes a new way of being a “gangster” that does not involve all of the negative attributes; it is an alteration of the work environment and the institution of work altogether, at least in the context of the film. Another iconic scene uses Ice Cube’s “Down For Whatever” in which the three main characters exchange the virus-filled computer disc that will finally enact their plan to drain money from their company’s account. Much like the song, this scene, while comical implies that the three characters have established a bond in making a revolutionary move against the system. In this action, they have more or less sealed that they too are “down for whatever” as it regards actualizing some…

This song also calls out certain celebrities and TV networks which were/are associated with the social/political mainstream of America. Heron’s music style most closely resembles rap, as his words aren’t sung rather than said to a beat. His lyrics don’t leave room for interpretation because they’re straightforward and almost communicate with the listener, like a public service announcement. “Message to the Messengers” targets modern hip-hop artists and advises them to be knowledgeable about the political correctness of what they’re dishing out to their fans because these artists are the messengers, for their platform allows them to reach a broader demographic than that of the olden times; they have a vast amount of control. Personally, I agree with Heron because a lot of people are highly impressed by the music…

Keith talks about all the different problems that we, as a nation, are facing such as immigration he says “Tidal wave coming cross the Mexican border.” ("A to Z Lyrics Universe ") Using an example of a hyperbole trying to push the point across that there is a lot of immigrants in the U.S taking our jobs, because they are willing to work for extremely low wages and many Americans will not. After that he asks “Why buy a gallon when it's cheaper by the barrel” ("A to Z Lyrics Universe") where he is talking about how gas prices are getting too high. If you add it up you can get more for your dollar if you by a barrel instead of a gallon. The barrel just costs so much noone wants to pay for it. The point he is trying to get across right here is what our economy is coming to and how it is only getting worse.…

The song starts off with the line “I see no changes”. The changes I believe he is referring are the changes that supposedly occurred after the Civil Rights Movement. My interpretation of what Tupac says is that, even though African American people are supposed to have more freedoms since the movement, he doesn’t see many changes at all. In the first stanza Tupac talks about how the police do not really care about the black man, and that no one is going to help them but themselves. They need to start looking out for each other instead of killing each other. He talks about how no one cares that drugs and guns are being brought into the lives of African Americans everyday, and that when they die its just “one less hungry mouth on the welfare”.…

In verse two he uses rain as reference to his current situation. ‘You know it's funny when it rains it pours”(2pac). Meaning when bad things happen other more difficult situations seem to occur at the same time. Another figurative language that he uses are Idioms. He doesn't have that much , but he is trying to make it the best way he can. “I'm trying to make a dollar out of fifteen cent” (2pac). One of most interesting part of this song is when he talks about blaming his mother for turning his brother into a crack baby. “We ain't meant to survive , cause it's a setup” (2pac). Which goes in to explain that the government want the black community to…
