Song Analysis Of Otherside By Red Hot Chili Peppers
“Otherside” by Red Hot Chili Peppers is a song about the battles against addiction and the pain of death caused by such addiction (and overdoses). Due to that, this song fits perfectly with the scene that I thereof chose.

In this scene, An-Mei Tsu is in her mother’s room with Wu Tsing, Yan Chang, Second Wife, Third Wife and Fifth Wife (as well as the hospital doctor), standing over her mother’s unconscious person. An-Mei finds out that her mother overdosed on opium (hence the song), and had basically poisoned herself, leaving the doctor with no way of helping her. An-Mei is hopelessly wretched in this scene, as there is no way to avoid her mother’s certain death. The overall theme of such a scene is despairing and horrifying; anyone would

Saunders statement on the impact of Wilco song reflects his own values from his fiction by allowing him to relate his fictional stories to what people go through everyday. For Saunders, the song brings out the better in him, he feel like every type of situation has a solution. Even in the most conflicted scenario people are able or have the option to put aside their differences and workout their differences. Saunders writing style also includes writing things indirectly by giving out clues of what might be going on in a characters mind or even a scenario in the story, but he doesn’t tell his readers the problem directly. He allows his readers to process the information, take guesses and allows them to figure out things on their own as the…

After I annotated this song and actually looked into what the lyrics were saying I learned that not everyone is who you think they are. For instance, you hide a lot of things from people not because you want to ,but because you don’t know how to tell them or maybe you’re afraid of what they will think of you. In the song ‘Demons’ by Imagine Dragons the singer says,”I wanna hide the truth’(Imagine dragons line 8 box 3) ,but then he says,” don’t want to hide the truth.”( Imagine Dragons line 35 box 8) I think that he is having mixed feelings what he should do. He is afraid that if he tells you that you may leave him or you won’t look at him the same way ever again.…

In the first stanza she explains what happened in a harsh way, she uses very powerful words: she is talking about ‘dropping the baby into the waters’, as if she thinks that at the time she thought about it as something she had to get rid of, something without any value running ‘with the sewage’. Then she uses the idea of drowning and being drowned as if it was a murder. Through all this choices of vocabulary we can guess that she regrets what she did, she is questioning herself and accusing herself.…

One can clearly see this when the narrator states that “one’s own husband, assures friends and relatives that there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression.” This distinctly indicates that the narrator is afflicted with depression, since her husband has diagnosed her with this disorder. One is also inclined to believe that this illness is the result of childbirth and a condition known as post-partum depression. In line 33, the narrator says that “we took the nursery at the top of the house.” After reading this, one can comprehend that the narrator has recently given birth. Later on in the text, the narrator exclaims in anger after saying that she was not allowed to enter the nursery; much less, see her own child. This cruel separation from her child may not be the root of her depression, rather hormone imbalances that spike different chemicals responsible for emotion that release in one’s brain, leading to a mental disorder. Post-partum depression is common because of this fact (Pick). Such profound depression like the one the narrator finds herself in, can prove to be terrible in the sense that it can build into true hallucinogenic…

From the beginning, it is obvious that a major depressive disorder is present. The lyrics, “Oh noose, tied myself in,” indicate apparent thoughts of suicide, which are consistent in cases of people with depression. The feeling of depression is described as “combining the anguish of grief with the sluggishness of bad jet lag.” It is understandable that one would feel thoughts of suicide after feeling this constant suffering.…

I was surprised that this supported my values because I never really thought about it. Consciously, I knew some of my choices in music were too “mainstream” in the aspect that it supported values and morals I disagreed with. Moreover, I often make my music choices simply based on the fact that it sounds good. However, analyzing the lyrics to my most played song revealed its true meaning and one that I agreed with. “This Kiss” matched up with my values perfectly. Listening to this song for its meaning and sung values has given me new perspective on the rest of my music. Next time you have wires in your ears genuinely listen to the music. Depict the real meaning of the lyrics. See if you agree or disagree with the message. Does your music define…

In the first section of the song’s lyrics the atmosphere of sadness is laid down through the first piece of imagery showing loneliness; “She walks to school with the lunch she packed” and “Wearin’ the same dress she wore yesterday”. This atmosphere, from imagery of loneliness, continues on throughout the second and third section by the teacher seeing bruises and not saying a word about it, or the neighbors hear her cries in the night but don’t do anything as well and go back to sleep. Imagery of abuse is created by the lyrics in the first section from “She hides the bruises with linen and lace”, and the fourth section “Somebody cries in the middle of the night” and “A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate”. For the fourth section where it says “the hands of fate” there is a double figurative display, the first one being that thy personify fate as if to have hands, and the second being the metaphor they use to compare the young girl’s fate and beatings, being derived from the hands.…

Through the use of extended metaphor, Gwendolyn Brooks, in the poem, “A Song in the Front Yard,” eludes that appearances are deceitful, and even the most beautiful circumstances are not always as they seem. The speaker of the poem openly expresses that she is craving change, which is highlighted by her stating “ a girl gets sick of a rose.” A rose is the typical flower thought off of romance and beauty. A rose is held to an incredibly high standard of perfection in the eyes of its beholder; this is similar to the way that the speaker is held to a high standard for being a part of the front yard. With this in mind, it can be deduced that the narrator is of higher economic status and is ready for a change from her typically inviting lifestyle.…

Lieder ohne Worte (Song without Words) is written by the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. It is a collection of forty-eight short lyrical piano pieces of markedly song-like character that he wrote at various periods of his life between 1809 and 1847. They are well suited to the study of musical form because of their artistic value. Op. 19b, No. 1 Andante con moto in E major was written in 1830 and is the first in the collection. The piece is in the key of E major and modulates from E to B to G major.…
