There are many factors that influence the ability to determine a DVT, some of the major factors are an increased BMI, diabetes, gender, age, immobility, hypertension, surgeries, cancer and prior DVTs. Knowing some of the main risk factors for DVTs have helped sonographers determine how they wanted to conduct this study. As a result from the study, they have stated with all the research that was conducted to test the three modalities, that there has been not much done to determine whether “the capabilities of the alternative imaging presets available on most ultrasound machines in this diagnosis.” (pg 59).
