There was never a full scale fight between the two, because both sides had nuclear weapons, and both sides knew if any attack was launched, nukes would ensure mutual destruction of both sides. Later, the U.N. tried to stop hostilities by calling a ceasefire, but it was denied and the U.S.A and U.N. had to go into South Korea to fight the North Koreans and their allies.
