These are just some of the many nick names used for marijuana.
Now I’m going to tell you some information about it. The National Cannabis Prevention and Information Centre noted that Cannabis is the most commonly used illicit drug with one in three Australians reporting use in their lifetime. Recent use of cannabis is most common among those aged 20–29 years, while 18% of secondary school students have use marijuana and 14% report use in the past 12 months. This extent of usage has led many to conclude that the attempts to prohibit the use of the substance have been unsuccessful. So today I’m going to argue in favour of the legalisation of Marijuana.
Point 1: People deserve freedom to use marijuana.
People deserve the right to make choices for themselves. The government only has the right to illegalize choices if they endanger someone else. Like drink driving or smoking in public. This does not apply to marijuana, since the individual who chooses to use marijuana does so under their own free will. The use of marijuana doesn’t pose any significant threat to the individual who chooses to use it. Marijuana is far less dangerous than some drugs that are legal, such as alcohol and tobacco. People deserve the right to make the decision for them self whether or not they use marijuana. The government should not tell individuals what to do as long as they do not harm others.
Point 2: Keeping marijuana illegal is expensive.
The second important reason that marijuana should be legal is that it would save our government lots of time and money. We currently spend billions of dollars every year to chase peaceful people who happen to like to get high. These people get locked up in prison and the taxpayers have to pay the bill. We have to pay for food, housing, health care, attorney fees, court costs, and other expenses to lock these people up. This is extremely expensive! We could save billions
