We've recently watched the movie 23 Skidoo both in class and on our own time at home. When I first saw it in class, I was a bit confused and I didn't really understand what was happening in the film. After re-watching it, I understood that it is a film about a post-nuclear bomb explosion. What's different about this movie is that there is no narrative, or actors, but there is music. I find that it makes you concentrate more on what's happening in the film because no one's explaining it to you. The music featured in the film wasn't continuous. It made the setting more mysterious because sometimes, the music would be almost scary sounding, and you'd think that something was about to happen. It made me create other scenarios…
In the film, Glory, the director made specific choices in editing the scenes in how we are meant to see it. He wanted for us to understand and capture what he was trying to accomplish in said scenes. Music and sound is used to capture our attention and focus on the scene that is currently being shown. The director made choices to place music and sound in specific moments when there is dialog or without. Music and sound is to help us as viewers to understand truly what is going on and how we are to take from the scene. The techniques weren’t anything new or special like other films such as Citizen Kane but the director made a huge impact with simple cinematography.…
The mise-en-scène greatly affected my perception of this movie in a positive way. This is one of my all-time favorite movies. This film seems to have the perfect compilation of imagination, color and classical music. The scenes are set up to match the emotion and vibe of the music, perfectly coordinated to each note, which further pulls the audience into the movie and its many changing themes.…
Through studying and analyzing ‘Maestro’ ,written by Peter Goldsworthy, and by viewing and analyzing the film ‘Edward Scissorhands’ directed by Tim Burton, it is evident that the composers of these texts allow the audience to see distinctive experiences with our eyes as well as with our minds through distinctively visual. The many visual, written and literary techniques have the ability to create a significant and impacting visual.…
To begin with the film started out with a communication climate that was both tense and without verbal communication. This was mainly due to the variance in membership constructs of the characters involved. The characters included the brain Brian, Andrew the athlete, the criminal Bender, the princess Claire, and the basket case Allison. There was a great deal of interesting nonverbal communication taking place between these people. Their reactions and responses to each other demonstrated perceptual errors, which would be shown as the story progressed.…
movie no one was talking, it was still obvious as to what was going on. Overall, this was…
Even within the initial sequence we are well introduced to the various cinematic devices used. The Atmosphere is very eerie and isolation plays key. The sets are very dark and the camera shots create confined corners with very close images of the characters as they communicate and travel through the ship itself.…
It is pretty clear that the music wasn't appropriate for the time period. It was the jazz age but artists like Jay Z and Lana Del Rey had songs featured in the film. While it could be argued that the current music added things to the movie, like a larger audience, the music just didn't fit correctly. The inclusion of such current music takes…
Within this film it is clear that the styles of narration used by the screenwriter's are classic Hollywood narrative styles, which is when there is a "strong central protagonist and neatly resolved climax" (Bordwell and Thompson, 2005). Another way of proving that this is a classic narrated Hollywood film is by looking at what Bordwell (2005), states as the action revolving around a central character that by the end of the film fulfills his/her goal. By looking at all of the above, the point argued in this essay is clear that this film is a typical Hollywood narrated film, even though there are some techniques used by the screenwriters and directors that lean towards the way non Hollywood films are narrated.…
What does this have to do with rock and roll? Well, as you watch the film, you realize the way that Scorsese uses music so extensively as commentary or counterpoint, or means of expression of character states of mind, or an important theme. He uses opera…
What made this musical so popular, was the combination of Rodgers and Hammerstein nack of producing successful songs and lyrics but also they argued to be the right men at the right time. H comment that that the first ten minutes of any musical theatre piece should define the style and themes to follow” this advice given from H is clearly presented within the beginning of the creation of the sound of music.…
A lot of imagery is used to make the audience really imagine what the composer has been through…
In the beginning, the music is whimsical and hopeful. Then, when the main character tries repeatedly to get the woman to notice him, the music gets louder and more upbeat. The upbeat tone makes the audience optimistic he will finally be able to gain her attention. But when his final paper airplane gets blown away, the music stops and we simultaneously feel defeated with him. It forces us to believe he will never see her again. Just as we have given up hope, the music commences and its bubbly tone reassures us as fate takes control of the situation. By the end of the film, the music has us believing in true…
The composer wanted to create a memorable Leitmotifs. The music makes me think of a drama that I can picture many of the actions taking place just by listening to the music.…
What could be more exhilarating then traveling between the stars as easily as walking through a door? That’s exactly what the highly anticipated film Stargate depicts. A team travels across the known Universe in an instant, leaving them on a strange new world, not knowing what to expect or who they might meet. This science fiction film will be released in October of 1994. With big names like James Spader and Kurt Russel playing the main characters, as well as being directed by Roland Emmerich. Showcasing an all-star cast, excellent directing, and an exceptional storyline this film really comes to life and is on course to be a mega hit the whole family can enjoy. However, it is undoubtedly the combination of surreal special effects and intricate…
